What is communication in your own definition?

There is no exact technical or textbook definition of communication that you

can find on any book and references out there, that is why several authors and
linguistics tend to give their own definition of communication based on their
experience and perspective.“It is a process of social interaction, through signs and
sign systems, product of human activities. Men in the communication process
express their needs, aspirations, criteria, emotions, etc." This is a definition of
communication by Fernando Gonzalez, a famous author in Brazil. The author’s
point of view of communication is that it is a product of human activities and
people use this process to state what they want for their receiver to understand.

As a college student i define communication as an art , either verbal or non-

verbal way , of expressing ideas, emotions, appeals and information to your
receiver. This process can be verbal because you can use words, sounds or even
intonation to convey a message to someone by either implicitly or explicitly.
Another type of verbal communication is written communication. Based on a
definition by Business Jargons.com, written communication refers to the process
of conveying a message through the written symbols. This can be in the form of
Emails, letters, proposals, telegrams, faxes, postcards and several more. You can
also convey a message to someone without the use of an oral or written
communication, this is called non-verbal communication. This type of
communication can also take several forms such as Eye contact, facial
expressions, gestures, humor and personal appearance. Even the sound of silence
can also be the loudest statement between a two conversing individuals. Lastly, i
defined communication as a form of art. Because just like all the by-products of
many inspired artists, an art of any form is used to express intense emotions and
to show why that certain art is made. It could be because of current sociopolitical
issues or perhaps something that the artist wanted to raise awareness of. There
maybe different interpretations the moment people look into the art that you
made, but still, this is a statement. A statement that you made this passionate art
for a reason. That is why you communicate to others, because there is a reason
behind all of these. You communicate because you want to investigate, to ask a
question, to declare a statement, to express feelings to someone or to stand up
for what is right. What i am doing right now, as you read this essay that i wrote, is
a written communication. Everything is communication and we should use this
ability properly and wisely because verbal or even non-verbal messages can be
very powerful and can display a huge impact to our society and to other people
as well.
