Orientation Proper
A. Rationale of SLM Development

B. Parts of MELC-Based SLMs

(Self-Learning Package)

C. Computer Software Platform to

be Used for SLM Development
• Due to COVID-19 pandemic, DepEd CO released
the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC).

• These MELCs are their basis for the development of

Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Modules.

• They started the orientation of national pool of

writers last April 2020 and started the development
in May 2020.

• Validation and Finalization of ADM Modules are

scheduled on June 2020 and the release of these
ADM modules should be July 2020.

Ready to Launch!
• Introduce the concept briefly in 1-2
paragraphs.

• Cover the ‘what’ and ‘why’.

• What is the module about, and why

is it relevant to the learners.

• It is important to establish to the

learners the importance of the
module.
Aim at the Target!
• This should be based on the MELC
guide of the learning area being
taught.

• If the competency is broad, sub-

tasking/unpacking is encouraged.

• All objectives shall be learner-

centered and shall promote 21st
century skills.
Try This!

• Congruent to the learning

objectives/competencies.

• Assess the learners’ entry-level

knowledge of the topic

• Use varied type of test.

Keep This in Mind!

• The Four (4) A’s shall be used.

• Activity
• Analysis
• Abstraction
• Application
Keep This in Mind!
Activity
• A structured experience.
• This shows instances of the content and
competencies in developing concepts,
ideas, and skills.
• Create an opportunity for valuable,
meaningful and memorable personal
learning.
• Develop a common base for the
discussion that follows.
• This will bring understanding to what the
learners already know and clarity to what
learners should learn further.
Keep This in Mind!
Analysis
• Ask relevant questions and shall be asked
in logical manner i.e. from simple to
complex that lead to formative
assessment
• The teacher processes the learners’
responses to gauge understanding
leading to the development of the concept.
• Facilitate learning rather than mere
lecturing and sharing facts and ideas.
The learner gains a wider view of the
lesson but at the same time draws closer
to the main topic.
Keep This in Mind!

Abstraction and Generalization

• integration of activity and analysis
• reinforce what learners know and
should know more
• inputs on key concepts are deepened,
discussed and clarified, then
summarized.
Keep This in Mind!

Application (Apply what you have

learned)
• transfer the skills/knowledge gained
into real–life concerns
• practical way of how learners use what
they have learned and thinking of new
ways on how it can be improved further
• validation of concepts giving more
opportunities to deepen the learnings.
Reflect!

• An opportunity to reflect on and

assess skills, knowledge and
comprehension.

• Students can grow and

develop their understanding more
deeply, so that they can work
continuously for self-improvement.
Reinforcement and Enrichment
• Activities (any form) that can increase
the strength of the response and tends
to induce repetitions of actions/learning.
• Allow learners to navigate group
environments and build social skills.
• This is another level of learning
opportunity for students who
demonstrate advanced and/or perform
well.
• Learners who engage in enrichment
programs typically make better decisions
about their lives. They are focused on
accomplishing greater things.
Assess Your Learning

• Congruent to the learning

objectives/competencies.

• Assess the learners’ total knowledge

of the topic

• Multiple Choice test integrated with

21st Century Skills.
