Ponies In the Stable

Equipment Needed:
Music
Poly Spots (one for each student)

Directions:
Scatter poly spots throughout the gym floor. These are the stables. Students pretend to be
ponies. When music is on, students gallop like ponies around the playing area. When music
stops, each pony has to go stand in a stable. When the teacher starts the music the ponies
continue to gallop.

Options:
Once they are in a stable, the teacher can tell the ponies to do something (everyone balance on
one foot, do leg stretches, etc.). I had a variety of colors of poly spots so another thing to do is
work on color recognition “If you are in a blue stable, raise your hand. If you are in a red stable
raise two hands.” etc.

Notes: This is a quick and easy game to do at the beginning of the school year because it
teaches the students about following directions and starting/stopping with the music. Be sure to
demonstrate galloping before playing this game as not all students will know how to. I teach it
by saying it’s like “follow the leader with your feet”.
