MAKING CONVERSATION
Usually, we use questions in the present perfect continuous
tense when we already think that thing has happened. This
might be because the person you’re speaking to told you
they were going to do something or it might be because
you’ve noticed something that has made you think that.

Have you been No, I just spent

travelling? You the weekend out
look very tanned. in the garden.

This is a very typical way of making conversation. You

can ask the question and then explain why you thought
that. In doing this, you’re inviting the person to answer
your question but if that doesn’t inspire much
conversation, they can also use the explanation you
gave them figure out what to say next.
