Simple present vs. Present progressive.

 Answer the following questions.
1-What do you do on Saturdays?

2-What were you doing 1 hour ago?

 Read carefully the following explanation:

The simple present is used for:
 Permanent states:
E.g.
1-Jane works as a salesclerk.
2-I live in Santiago.
 Repeated actions, daily routines or habits.:
E.g.
1-Jonathan drives to work every day.
2-I always watch a movie at night.
***In conclusion the formula of the simple present is the following:
Subject+main verb + rest of the sentence

Affirmation: They go to the beach on Sundays.

Negation: They do not/don’t go to the beach on Sundays.
Question: Do they go to the beach on Sundays?

The present progressive is used for: verb+ing

 Temporary situations:
E.g.
He is cooking dinner right now.
 Actions happening at or around the time of speaking:
E.g.
You are learning English.
 Fixed arrangements in the near future, especially when we know the
place and the time:
E.g.
They’re getting married next week.
***The following verbs do not usually have a progressive form: Have
(=possess), like, love, hate, want, know, remember, forget, understand,
think, believe, cost, etc…
I have a car (NOT: I am having a car)
She hates football. (NOT: She is hating football)
***The formula of the present progressive is the following:

subject +verb be+ main verb(ing)+rest of the sentence
