CCE 5105 OFDM Assignment

1) Simulate a 256 sub-channel OFDM system.

2) Modulate each sub-channel using 16-QAM and plot the BER in an AWGN channel. Assume
perfect synchronization.
3) Modulate each sub-channel using 16-QAM and plot the BER in a two-ray frequency selective
channel. Assume Perfect synchronization.

4) Implement a cyclic prefix system which avoids ISI and repeat question 3.
5) Comment on the results obtained.

BER is low in theoretic compared to Rayleigh for higher SNR values.

The BER values will decrease for the AWGN channel with the cyclical prefix. This means that the
maximum error corrects itself to the receiver. For SNR values more than 15, the AWGN channel
BER with or without the cyclical prefix is theatrically zero while the Rayleigh Channel has a non-
zero BER value. Hence, we can say that BER performance is better in AWGN with the cyclical
prefix compared to the Rayleigh Channel. When signal power is equal to noise power, the BER
makes it bigger. And when the value of the SNR makes it bigger the BER is equal to 0.
