A group of 120 men had provisions for 200 days after 5 days,

30 men died due to an epidemic how long will the remaining

food last
SOLUTION

Total provision for one day = 120 x 200 = 24,000

After 5 days, provision reduced by =120 x 5 = 600
So, left provision = 24,000 - 600 = 23,400 men
After 5 days, men left = 120- 30=90
Food lasting = 23400/90= 260 days more

Ans:Aliter

Lets assume required food per person per day=x

Food for 120 people for 1 day=120x

Total available food=120x*200(food available for 200 days for 120 people)

Total food =24000x

Food consumed in 5 days=120x*5=600x

Food left after 5 days=24000x-600x=23400x

As 30 people died after 5 days, remaining people 90

Food required for 90 people for day =90x

No of days food can be consumed for 90 people=food left/food consumption per day

=23400x/90x

=260

So theui remaining food will be last for another 260 days

2. A fort had provisions for 300 men for 90 days. After 20 days, 50 men left the fort. How long would the
food last at the same rate? (www.math-only-math.com)

Solution:

Remaining number of men = (300 - 50) = 250.

Remaining number of days = (90 - 20) days = 70 days.

300 men had provisions for 70 days

1 man had provisions for (300 × 70) days   [less men, more days]

250 men had provisions for (300 × 70)/250 days

                                                                  [more men, more days]

                                          = 84 days.

Hence, the remaining food will last for 84 days.

3. 6 oxen or 8 cows can graze a field in 28 days. How long would 9 oxen and 2 cows take to
graze the same field?
Solution:

6 oxen = 8 cows

⇒ 1 ox = 8/6 cows

⇒ 9 oxen ≡ (8/6 × 9) cows = 12 cows

⇒ (9 oxen + 2 cows) ≡ (12 cows + 2 cows) = 14 cows

Now, 8 cows can graze the field in 28 days

1 cow can graze the field in (28 × 8) days   [less cows, more days]

14 cows can graze the field in (28 × 8)/14 days

                                                                 [more cows, less days]

                                              = 16 days

Hence, 9 oxen and 2 cows can graze the field in 16 days.

4. 6 typists working 5 hours a day can type the manuscript of a book in 16 days. How many days
will 4 typists take to do the same job, each working 6 hours a day?

Solution:

6 typists working 5 hours a day can finish the job in 16 days

6 typists working 1 hour a day can finish it in (16 × 5) days

                                                         [less hours per day, more days]

1 typist working 1 hour a day can finish it in (16 × 5 x 6)/6 days

                                                          [less typists, more days]

1 typist working 6 hours a day can finish it in 6 days

                                                         [more hours per day, less days]

4 typists working 6 hours a day can finish it (16 × 5 × 6)/(6 × 4) days

                                                                   = 20 days.

Hence, 4 typists working 6 hours a day can finish the job in 20 days.
2000 soldiers in a fort had enough food for 20 days. But
some soldiers were transferred to another fort and the food
lasted for 25 days. How many soldiers were transferred?

A) 400

B) 450

C) 525

D) 500

Correct Answer:
A) 400

Description for Correct answer:

Let the number of soldiers transferred be x.

Now, the food would last for 25 days for (2000−x)

soldiers.

Less men, More days (Indirect proportion)

25 : 20 :: 2000 : 22000-x

= 2000 - x = 2000×2025

= 2000 - x = 1600

Therefore, x = 2000 - 1600 = 400

There is provision of food in fort for 1200 soldiers for 60 days. After
15 days, 200 soldiers leave the fort. Remaining food will last for how
many days?
A. 56 days

B. 50 days

C. 54 days
D. 48 days

Answer: Option C

Solution(By Examveda Team)

Work equivalence method:

1200 × 45 = 1000 × x
Hence, x = 54 days

Variation Method:
After 15 days 200 soldiers leaved.
Soldiers              Food for days
1200 ↓                 45
1000                 ↑ x (let)
Arrows show the opposite variation to each other
12001000=x45

Or, x =
1200×451000
  = 54 days.

3600 soldiers are asked to stand in different rows. Every row has as many
soldiers as there are rows. Find the number of rows .

Answer : For these types of questions stating as "as many rows as soldiers" we have to find
root of given number.

Given rows are equal to soldiers. Let it be x

so x × x = 3600
=> x² = 3600
=> x = √3600
x = 60.

There are 60 rows.

Find the altitude of a Trapezium, the sum of the lengths of

whose base is 6.5 cm and whose area is 26 CM square
Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let a and b are two parallel sides of a trapezium .

Given ,

a+b = 6.5 cm ,

Let altitude = h cm

Area of the trapezium (A)=26 cm²

Therefore,

The sum of two consecutive multiples of 10 is

210. find the smaller multiple.
Ans: let the two consecutive multiples of 10 be x and x+10

the sum of two consecutive multiples of 10 is 210

x+x+10 = 210

2x+10 = 210

2x = 210-10

2x = 200
x = 200/2

x = 100

smallest multiple = x = 100

largest multiple = x+10 = 100+10 = 110

The dimensions of a cuboid are in the ratio

1:2:3 and its total surface area is 88 m2. Find
the dimensions.
Let the dimensions of the cuboid be a, 2x. 3x metres.

Now,

Surface area = 88m2

2(2x2+6x2+3x2)=88

22x2=88

x2=4

x=2 m

Hence, the dimensions are 2 m,4 m,6 m.

The dimensions of a cuboid are in the ratio 3:2:1 and its total
surface area is 3168 cm2.Find its dimensions

SOLUTION
Let us assume that the length(l) of the cuboid = 3x cm .

Let us assume that the breadth(b) of the cuboid = 2x cm.

Let us assume that the height(h) of the cuboid = x cm.

Total Surface area (TSA) of the cuboid = 3168 cm².

TSA of a cuboid = 2 (lb + bh + lh)

2(3x×2x + 2x×x + 3x×x) = 3168

2(6x² + 2x² + 3x²) = 3168

2 × 11x² = 3168

22x² = 3168

x² = 144

x = 12

Length(l) of the cuboid = 3x = 3 × 12 = 36cm.

Breath(b) of the cuboid = 2x = 2 × 12 = 24cm.

Height(h) of the cuboid = x = 12cm.
