ABSTRACT

We live in interesting times defined by exponential

change. We have increasingly learned to adapt to
this change, but are yet to fully learn to accept it.
This has lead to massive economic and social
upheavals during current times. In our quest for
industrialization followed by knowledge
and service commoditization, we nearly forgot
society. People who are still impoverished, people
with special needs, people with low incomes
are still unserved, causing anxiety and extreme
reactions.

Design is a perfect response to bind people together

and to elevate human life through harmonious
synchronization of needs and solution. Design is
something that makes business and social sense at
the same time. In the present and forthcoming
scheme of things design certainly has a very
important role to play by helping companies and
societies to accept and adapt to the changing climate
and to capitalize on the change by turning it into an
opportunity.

Growth within design industry is vital as it would

18ARC61 – ARCHITECTURAL not only create new jobs within the design industry,
it will then be able to serve Indian businesses in a
DESIGN - VI better way.

International Institute of Art Design industry today suffers from unavailability of

quality and qualified designers. The number of
and Design (IIAD) designers coming out of academic institutions is
growing steadily. At the same time the demand for
design services is also rising.

Institution for Higher Education

INTRODUCTION:
 The past few decades have witnessed rapid advancements in the field of technology and a
simultaneous evolution of the education system, making learning a more interactive
process than ever before.
 Designing an institutional building to suit the needs and aspirations of a twenty-first
century student population can be a daunting task.

Some key things to remember when designing a new institutional building:

1. Identity

The institution must strategize how it wants to position itself right at the beginning of the
design process. The following points help establish the institution’s identity and
determine how it is viewed by the community at large:
· Vision
· Teaching philosophy
· Curriculum
· Types of students
· Courses offered
It is imperative for an institution’s development that its broader vision and goals are tied
in with its architecture and design.

2. Shared Space

In order to minimize construction costs and optimize spatial efficiency, spaces should be
designed to accommodate a plurality of functions. It also makes sense to provide shared
spaces for the storage of educational materials, allowing professors and teachers to store

all educational supplies in a centralized location. This enables the utilization of the
classroom in a more effective manner by reducing its overall size.

3. Technology

With technology making deeper inroads into the learning process, it is becoming
increasingly important to make sure that institutional buildings are designed to
accommodate present as well as future technological applications. This includes but is
not limited to computers, laptop stations, data ports, display monitors, speakers, internet
servers, and its accompanying wiring and cabling. Several studies suggest that
incorporating these facilities inside an educational campus can enhance the student
learning experience.

4. Eco-friendly Design

Today, the world needs buildings that are environmentally conscious in terms of resource and
energy use and waste discharge. Institutions must, therefore, opt for the services of the best
sustainable design architects in India who practice sustainable architecture for the design of
an eco-friendly campus. This choice represents the institution’s initiative to make a positive
impact on the environment and the community, while simultaneously allowing students to
receive education in a healthy environment.

Some of the other design considerations for an institutional building include:

• Proper heating, air-conditioning, and lighting facilities throughout the building.

• Safety and security measures such as CCTV surveillance, etc.
• A well-designed auditorium, gymnasium, and sports complex.
• A variety of open and green spaces for student interaction and events
• A well-designed institutional building provides the perfect environment for the holistic
growth and development of students.

5. Design Education

Design education has seen a spurt of growth in the last 5 years or so with many private
institutions getting initiated. Till before 5 years, the design education landscape was
characterized by Government supported institutions only, which were few in numbers for a
country as large as India.

New Education Policy 2020 - NEP 2020 takes forward our education system towards
International standards and it will have impact on the future of the Indian Education.

Many foreign design companies are setting up offices in India on their own. There are a few
already here, mainly in the area of branding and communication.

Realizing the increasing importance of design in economic, industrial and societal development
and in improving quality of products and services, the Government of India initiated a
consultative process with industry, designers and other stakeholders to develop the broad
contours of a National Design Policy.

The vision behind initiating this project is to have a “design enabled Indian industry” which
could impact both the national economy and the quality of life in a positive manner.

NEED FOR THE PROJECT

• In India with many design institutions coming up, creating a Design Institute -
International Institute of Art and Design (IIAD) is an opportunity as it not only
defines an iconic building, but also to set in motion the education of millions.
• The institute provides a common platform of inter-disciplinary education, research and
training. as India continues to develop past the internet age this project is a prototype for
a uniquely Indian experience – where all parts are interdependent and sustainable –
environmentally, & culturally.
• Also it becomes easier for the society / universities / industry to recognize these
qualifications and their equivalences.
• Nonetheless design is evolving to become more strategic in nature. It means that
businesses use design across the length of their development process as also they use
design to find new areas of business.
• Companies use design in different ways. Some use it as strategic tool and some relegate
it to be used at the end of the development process for styling purposes.
• A handful of Indian companies use design strategically.

SCOPE

• To develop a self-contained design programme of contemporary study of applied arts –

“Architectural design ,Interior design, Fine arts & Sculpture , Fashion
Technology”.
• To provide a unique environment for artistic and educational interaction between
different design students and staffs .
• To foster original work in the field of design in India.
• To provide a multi- disciplinary approach to design and to satisfy the complex problems
of India’s changing environment..
• Relation between formal and informal spaces.

OBJECTIVES

• Making of Design institute with all infrastructure facilities by considering international

standards in accommodation, and by using innovative materials.
• To better understand the Indian consumer, to meet the needs and aspirations of this
assertive, active, enlightened consumer, Indian businesses and multinational corporations
will need to take assistance from Indian designers. This puts a spot light on the design
industry as never before.
• To take effective steps towards “cradle to grave environment-friendly approach” for
designs produced in India so that they have global acceptance as ‘sustainable designs’.
• Enable the designers in India to have access to global trends and market intelligence and
technology tools for product development and innovations;
• Encourage close cooperation between academia and industry to produce proprietary
design know-how while encouraging creation of new design-led enterprises for wealth
creation; and
• Encourage and facilitating a culture for creating and protecting intellectual property in
the area of designs.
