Solving Corresponding Parts of Congruent Triangles

Solving corresponding parts of congruent triangles require knowledge that two


triangles are congruent if their vertices can be paired so that the corresponding sides are
congruent and corresponding angles are congruent.

For examples 1 – 3, refer to the figure at the right.

Example 1. What is the measure of ∠ R?


Answer: First, find ∠ T.
∠ T = 1800 – 450 – 750

Example 2. What is the measure of ∠ A? 180 degrees.
Dahil ang ∠ T ≅ ∠ R at ∠ T = 600, kaya ang

since ∠ I = 450,
therefore, ∠ A = 450

Answer: First, identify the congruent sides

Example 6. What is the value of y?

Answer: Since y is in WI ,, and the


corresponding side of WI ,is SI ,.
Then, WI ,= 5y – 12 and SI ,= 18
where, WI ,= SI ,
therefore, 5y – 12 = 18,
add 12 in both sides of the equation,
5y = 30
then multiply both sides of the
equation by 1/5
we get,
y = 6.

Example 7. What is the value of ∠ T?

Answer: From the figure, ∠ T ≅ ∠ M,

since, ∠ M = 340,
therefore, ∠ T = 340.
