Carla Tate has a disability and was sent to a school where she is protected and guided by the teachers and doctors. She returned home after graduation. A lot of things happened that took place within the circle of family: Carla’s independence, Heather acceptance as gay, and the likes. This story shares a heart-warming experience of courage, patience, honesty, love and family. Mrs. Tate was overprotective to her daughter, Carla, because she doesn’t want her to be hurt and doesn’t want the accident to happen again. As much as Carla wanted to be independent on her own, she left home and went back to her previous school. The teacher/doctor advices the parents to give her independence to learn how to survive on her own. She then granted her wish to enroll into a Polytech school and met Daniel McMann along the way. Daniel shares the same disability like Carla. The two became very close and became lovers, and married at the end of the movie. There are a lot of things that I have learned from this movie including how the characters to change. For starters, Carla changed a ton, but it was the mother that have changed her character so much in the movie. She was a strong and loving mother who only wanted what’s best for her daughters and family. Sure, she may have been rough and difficult at first, yet it was Carla that have changed her little by little. There was a scene where she and her husband talked how it frightens her leave Carla on her own and doubted her way of caring for her, but to me, she is a mother beyond compare. I applaud her patience handling Carla on her own care. That being said, mothers truly are the best. The father has also made a great appearance of strength of his deep affection of understanding, caring, wisdom and love of family. I also applaud for his well-acted part as the father. He also showed loyalty that he will never abandon his family, and continues to protect it no matter the cost. I also loved how he continues to praise and appreciate his wife no matter how many times they fought with each other. Carla’s sisters, maidservant, and Ernie also took part on the character development of Mrs. Tate and give rise to awareness and love instead of ignorance and hatred. For me, they are too perfect to be the consoler of Carla and Daniel, however, they stay beside them whenever they needed help. I am fond with Carla and Daniel relationship in the movie. It keeps me smiling and laughing all the time, especially the scene when they studied how to do the lovemaking. It may seem funny but it is not something to laugh at since they are humans and they feel the same way as we do, and they do have that urgency to do it someday. It is up to us (or the parents) to guide them to the right path. I am honored that I have watched this movie. Having disability is nothing to be ashamed of. Nothing is also wrong in and about them. From what I have seen, people should not mistreat them as unfortunate, unlucky, unloved, and unwelcomed. We need to voice out love, acceptance to these people like what we do to the LGBT community. Indeed, the other sister is nothing like the rest.
