Look out for traffic thoroughfares and
pedestrian walkways
Monitor direction of travel and surroundings at
all times. Ensure:
o Do not drive behind reversing vehicles
o Allow sufficient distance from plant
during operation (allow sufficient room
for equipment failure –such as plant
rollover)
o Stop work immediately if pedestrians
enter “no go zones”
o Alertness at all times. Listen for:
Reversing alarms/beepers
Calls from site workers
Safety/warning signs, Spotters,
traffic barriers etc. must be
obeyed as required
Make visual and verbal contact with other plant
operators and pedestrians as required.
Ensure clearance from structures
Never drive over or alongside trenches, they
may collapse

Overhead wires and services
Inspect area before moving plant; look out for
overhead wires and electrical services including
lights
Have plant arm as low as possible at all times
Minimum clearance from overhead services to
be maintained at all times with a spotter utilized
when required
Inspect area of travel and be sure the surface is 1L Supervisor
