of Karnataka ?
Belagavi , Kalaburgi , mysuru , Bengaluru

3. Explain the geographical location of


Karnataka in India .
• Karnataka is one of the 28 states of India .
• It is situated in the southern part of India
in the western central area of the
peninsular region .
• Its length is 750 km stretching from Aurad
taluk in Bidar district in the northernmost
tip of the state to Chamrajnagar districtin
the south ,
• its width is 400 km , fromwest to east ,
Karwar in Uttar Kannada district is at the
Western end whereas Mulbagal taluk in
Kolar district is at the eastern end .

4. Mention the important physical divisions


of Karnataka.
The Coastal plain , The Malnad Region , The
Maidan Region

5. Write a note on the relief features of


Malnad region .
• Western Ghats are referred as Malnad –
land of hills ,
• they are also called Sahyadri .
• These hills obstruct rain –bearing winds
from the Arabian sea and cause heavy
rainfall more than 200 cms.
• The highest peaks in this region are
Mullaiyangiri , Kudremukh , Rudragiri etc.

6. Give an account on the coastal plains of


Karnataka.
• The Coastal plains of Karnataka lie
between the Arabian sea and Malnad
region .
• This coastline extends from Mangaluru in
the South and to Karwar in North .
• This region is also called” the Canara or the
Karnataka Coastline
• “ There are many ports along the coastline
. Among them , “New Mangaluru “ is the
major port ,
• There are other fishing ports like Malpe ,
Karwar Kumta etc.
• There are also many beautiful beaches
along the coast line .
• There are also many islands .
• The main occupation of the the people
near coast is fishing .

7. Name the main hills of Southern Maidan .


Chitradurga Hills , Narayanadurga Hills ,
Shivaganga , Madhugiri hill , Channakeshva
hill ,Kavaledurga ,Adichunchangiri and
Billigiriranga hill.

8. Mention the mountain passes in the


western Ghats .
Charmadi Ghat – It links Mangaluru and
Chikkamanguluru
Shiradi Ghat _ It links Hassan Sakleshpur and
Manguluru
Agumbe Ghat – It links Shivamogga and
Udupi
Hulikal Ghat – It links Shivamogga and
Kundapur

9. How did Christianity expand ?


After crucification of jesus Christ , his
disciples were tortured , inspite of the
torture they continued to spread Christianity
. During the time of Emperor Constantine
Christianity was adopted as the state
religion.Subsequently Christianity spread
throughout Europe , Today Christian
churches are found throughout the world .
The Bible became the scripture of this
religion . Thus Christianity was spread.

10. What is Hijra ?


The orthodox community of Mecca
opposed Prophet Mohammed. Due to this he
could not preach in Mecca any more . In the
year 622 A. D , he travelled from Mecca to
Medina . This journey from Mecca to Madina
is known as Hijra.

11. What are the teachings of Islam ?


• God is one.
• A simple prayer is enough to win the heart
of the God
• One should lead an honest life and
principled life and should keep away from
all bad habits .
• One should have respect for women and
compassion for the poor and weak.
