COMPUTATION OF LOADS
A. DEAD LOADS (To be applied on all spans – NSCP 2010, Section 203 – Combination of
Loads)
1. Loads on interior floor slab-beam with masonry walls (D)
REINFORCED CONCRETE ELEMENTS:
Floor slab = 0.10(24 kPa) = 2.4 kPa
FLOOR FINISHES;
Concrete toppings = 0.6 kPa
Ceramic tiles = 0.77 kPa
CEILINGS:
Suspended wood furring = 0.12 kPa
Plywood panels (6mm) = 0.036 kPa
WALLS:
4” CHB wall, plastered both sides = 1.63 kPa
TOTAL UNFACTORED LOAD = 5.56 kPa
2. Load on beams supporting trussed roofing system (D)
STEEL TRUSS SYSTEM:
Angular bar truss system = 0.35 kPa
50mm x 75mm C-Purlins = 0.05 kPa
ROOF COVERING:
Long-span GI Roof, 0.40mm = 0.05 kPa
CEILINGS:
Suspended Wood furring = 0.12 kPa
Plywood Panels 6mm = 0.036 kPa
INSULATION:
Urethane foam with skin =0.0009 kPa
TOTAL UNFACTORED LOAD = 0.76 kPa
B. LIVE LOADS (To be applied on adjacent spans and alternate spans – NSCP 2010 Section
203)
1. Occupancy
Minimum floor live load for residential =1.9 kPa
TOTAL UNFACTORED LOAD = 1.9 kPa
C. ROOF LIVE LOADS AND WIND LOADS (To be applied on adjacent and alternate span –
NSCP 2010 Section 203)
1. Roof Live load (Lr)
NSCP 2010 Table 205-3 Method 1 = 0.06 kPa
2. Design Wind Pressures on Walls and Roof
NSCP 2010, Figure 207-2,P = 207 kPa
THE MOST CRITICAL LOAD COMBINATION USING ULTIMATE STRENGTH DESIGN (USD)
IS 1.2D + 1.6W + fi L + 0.5Lr WHERE fi = 0.5 THEREFORE THE MOST CRITICAL
FACTORED LOADS ARE 12.15 kPa FOR INTERIOR FLOORS AND 4.52 FOR TRUSSED
ROOFS.
STRUCTURAL COMPUTATIONS
STEEL DESIGN
1. Design of Purlins
Length of Truss, L = 6.0m
Height of Truss, H = 1.0m
Number of Panels, n = 6
From the NSCP Specifications:
Critical Load, P = 4.52 kPa
Bay Length = 1.50m
Spacing of Purlins = 0.6m
Assuming 50mm x 75mm x 2mm C-Purlins spaced @ 0.60m OC
Properties of steel:
Area = 342 mm²
Sx = 8698 mm³
Sy = 2561 mm³
Wp = 26.3 N/m
Weight of Roofing Sheets = 77 Pa
Total Pressure = 4.60 kPa
Weight, w = 2.76 kN/m
Moment = 12.42 kN-m
Flexural Stress, Fb = 4.85 MPa
Using A36 Steel, Fy= 248 Mpa and the allowable Flexural stress will be
Fa=163.68
MPa. Fb < Fa, therefore it is Safe! Finally, use 50mm x 75 x 2mm C-Purlins
Spaced @ 0.60m OC.
2. Analysis and Design of Truss
Horizontal area = 5.625 m²
Inclined Area = 5.82 m²
3. Design of Column, C1
Tributary Area = 6.0 m²
Roof Load: 27.6 kN
Beam Load = 28.2 kN
Third Floor Load: 101.1 kN
Assuming 30 x 40 cm section dimension for C-1
Column weight =8.46 kN
Second Floor Load = 165.36 kN
Pu Required = 246.72 kN
Adopt 300 x 400mm column with 10 pcs-16mm diameter vertical bars and 10mm
Diameter lateral ties spaced at 1 @ 50mm, 4@100, rest @ 200mm OC for C-1
Adopt 200 x 300 mm column with 6 pcs-16 mm diameter vertical bars and 10 mm
Diameter lateral ties spaced at 1@ 50mm, 4@100mm, rest @ 200mm OC for C-2

Diameter lateral ties spaced at 1 @ 50mm, 4@100mm, rest @200mm OC for C-3
Finally adopt 1.50 x 1.50 x 0.25 m isolated footing with 8 pcs 16mm diameter rebars
equally spaced both ways for F2.
