Craft Unit Rigging Plan & Guide Lines for GTG-2 Generator And

Gear Box Overhauling Job At PFL Site.

These guides line shall apply to all personnel are responsible to perform any Rigging/ Lifting activity at the PFL
site. All those are responsible to carry out rigging activities at PFL site to make sure compliance the following.
Hazards:
Prior to the initiation of work identifies, evaluate, and categorizes the hazards associated with the work activity,
eliminate / minimize the hazards (to be covered through
combined team Tool Box Talk)
Assessment:
 Assessment of object which needs to be rigging / lifting.
 Volume of object / load
 Stability of abject / load
 Centre gravity of load
Sling method and safety factor
The most important thing to consider when selecting a slinging
arrangement which method is best to safely support the load
Factors taken into account are:
 The number of sling parts that support the load.
 The position of the centre of gravity of load.
 Application of the correct sling safety factor for the sling
arrangement.
 To calculate the SWL of a sling and to ensure the WLL of sling is not exceeded the sling method safety
factor used to describe the safety factor when wire sling are used at different angle/ degree.
Safety Factor/ Angle Factor
 Four leg slings have their own safety factor, commonly used angle factor are given in Table.
Pre use inspection of accessories
 Visual inspection of all rigging and lifting tackle / accessories prior to use any rigging and lifting job
(Colour code and SWL) (At PFL Site Current Colour Code Is Blue)
Pre use inspection of mobile crane which need to be used for rigging activities
Check the load test certificate, load chart of crane and rigging equipment
Load testing of Lifting Equipment’s and Crane prior to start of the job to be done by Craft. Competency of crane
operator.
Rigging Strategy
Rental hydraulic 160 ton crane will be used for lifting of GTG-2 generator.
Use 2 No. 15 feet length of wire sling and 02 Nos. 10 feet length of wire sling with 02 Nos. 15 ton chain blocks.
And 6 Nos. 20 ton shackle will be used for lifting of generator and after filling of checklist and tool box talk,
generator will be lifted and placed on rental low bed trailer and after completion of Electrical and C&T & FM
maintenance work Craft team performed same activity to lift generator and will be placed on designated place
and pre-fabricated trolley (previously used for Lemont boiler rigging job) now shall be used for the load assembly
in main workshop gate in front of ammonia plant side and unload generator via 160 ton rental crane on trolley
base  after unloading anchor 02 wire sling on trolley shift with help of shovel loader/ 05 ton lift truck and placed
in workshop at designated place.

Ground condition
Make sure stability/level of ground
condition/wet/ where crane to be parked
to carry out rigging activity.
Identify potential trouble spots such as
underground water line.
Crane Activity will be performed in day
time.

Weather condition

Wind-Check wind pressure prior to lift the

load in open area.
Rain- (cease operation when visibility is
affected
Dust- and heavy fog visibility between
crane operator and signal man must be
affected.
Work will stop for any wind velocity for
which supervisor decides that work environment is unsafe.

Inspection of Work Area

It is responsibility of rigger and crane operator or crane signalling person to conduct a thorough check of the
work area before the crane is driven on to the proposed crane site. Any hazards, fault or defect must be
eliminated.
Overhead obstruction, pipe, structure. Cable trays. GIS line,
Electrical power line and high voltage line.
Uneven surface, soft ground, oil spills & Underground water line
Poor lighting/Blind corner
Personnel and site safety

Arrangement for the safeguard of personnel and equipment’s must be implemented including.
Barricade all around area where rigging activity to be carried out.
Unauthorised/ irrelevant person not allowed in lifting area.

Resource required:
One competent crane operator.
02 competent signal man.
Four competent riggers.
Sub Eng. / Sup supervised during whole rigging activity.
