COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING 2

SUBMITTED BY: JOMARK C. ORPILLA BSN3A

I AM HALFWAY THERE!

At this moment, I still find quite difficult to cope up with

this new learning. I thought , it would be going to easy but I
was wrong . It double my effort. In classroom, I can focus
more on my assignments/work and get engaged in the
subject. Whenever I'm in a classroom, I feel prepared to
learn and get my brain pumped; at home, I feel like it's very
hard to be prepared because I'm always getting distracted.
But , look at me now, I must say that I'm still surviving and
continue to learn even we're in the midst of pandemic. Now
that I am halfway in this journey, I further plan to improve
myself by being flexible. Because my classes are turned
into online lectures, videos, or a series of readings. My
library is now digital, and office hours are virtual.
Resources are still available; they are just in a different
form. Being flexible about these changes will help me even
more to help me to adjust . Sometimes I’ll need to adjust at
a moment’s notice, like when you lose your Internet
connection. Even if you get stuck not being able to be
online, you still need to get work done. So have a backup plan. Download course materials so that I can access
them offline and make sure I have professors’ e-mail addresses and phone numbers in case I need to reach them
about interrupted work. It may be tough, now that im moving again into the next level with this new learning
but through, passion, dedication ,determination, motivation and eagerness to learn has brought me to pursue my
career, especially with the challenges brought by COVID-19. I'll bring those words in achieving my dreams and
I will use it like a burning torch so that I could be able to see the light of triumph and to see light of victory and
that is to attach the RN next to my name.

PRELIMINARY PERIOD: MY REFLECTIVE

JOURNAL
The concept struck me the most is the vital statistics. It refers to the systematic study of vital events such as
births, illnesses, marriages, divorce, separation and deaths. It uses in Indices of the health and illness status of a
community and also serves as bases for planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating community health
nursing programs and services. I like this concept , the particular reason for circumstance, statistics can be used
in nursing for a variety of reasons. One would be to better understand the trend in a patient's vital statistics. For
example, if the blood pressure of the patient deviates too far from the norm, this is a sign that the nurse should
let the patient know. Another one is research in nursing policies and procedures. Someone else might perform a
statistical analysis of the patient outcomes based on how many patients a nurse is taking care of or how many
hours a nurse is working. If nurses are doing wound care, there has probably been research using statistics on
patient outcomes for different types of wound care procedures. Your need to wash meticulously when you leave
one patient and go to another is based on research using stats that show that this procedure dramatically reduces
infections. There have been statistics that tell us about trends in nursing, that there is likely to be a shortage of
nurses in the coming years, and, I believe, that there is currently a shortage of nurses in some rural areas of the
country. Nursing statistics are very important. Much of what a nurse does every day is based on statistics. In
addition , it will help us as a future nurses to support medical research by recording statistical information about
our patients. By contributing such quantitative details, we can help researchers develop more efficient medical
treatments and practices that will, in the long run, mean better care for patients.

As it is mentioned in the LMS, Community Organizing participatory Action Research (COPAR) is a social
development approach that aims to transform the apathetic, individualistic, voiceless poor into dynamic,
participatory & politically responsive community. A collective, participatory, transformative, liberative,
sustained & systematic process of building people’s organizations by mobilizing & enhancing the capabilities &
resources of the people for the resolution of their issues & concerns towards affecting change to their existing
oppressive & exploitative conditions. As a matter of fact, it is done to educate the people and develop their
critical awareness of their present condition. It also helps the community to develop and enhances its resources
to the fullest, making the community become self-reliant or independent. I can apply this concept through
encouraging the people in the community most especially those people who are belong to low-socioeconomic
status to become more aware and be conscious about their state of living to empower them to determine the
cause of their own problem and to analyzed it, to develop competence for changing their own problem and to
act by themselves in responding to their own problem. In that simple way, we can save the health and lives of
those people who are belong underserved, and depressed communities.

Why is important to know RA 10121? To further explain, RA 10121 is a law that requires both the government
of ones country and its citizen to be prepared for disaster, natural or human induced. It was shown in a reason in
study that shows the Philippines ranked second for countries at risk and third for country expose in disasters
because we are close to the pacific ocean , a place for most storms form. We are also part of the pacific ring of
fire, an area on earth where volcanoes are rampant and disasters are likely more often to strikes . The first of
natural disaster from Disaster Risk Profile is typhoons, which is noted to be the most catastrophic that hit the
country . One example is typhoon is Yolanda, that occurred during November 27, 2013 that it killed more than
5,000 people. The second natural disaster is earthquake, an instant of shaking and trembling of earth. With the
help of DRRM damages and lose cam be minimized, loses like lives and structures ,and this disaster is not only
cause death but huge financial loss for the country. DRRM plan of 2010, a government plan to protect for us to
catastrophies. It not only ensure us of disaster preparedness but also provide us the framework the DRRM
system. In the system, it is stated that that emergencies fund will be release by the government and stake run
banks to ensure proper recovery after a disaster strikes. It is also stated that the NDRRMC will be in charged of
the preparations before the ?1disaster strikes and when strikes and leaves. To expound on the NDRRM, it has 4
area to ensures us as a safer community. First is the preparedness, which is preparing by addressing the people
stock piling and preparing relief goods. Second is disaster medication and prevention which is to prevent the
loss of lives and avoiding hazard. Third is disaster response, which is to ensure proper response after the
disaster by conducting rescue operation and distributing relief goods. Lastly is the disaster rehabilitation and
recovery, which is recover from the loses and to restored damages. And that is why it is vital to know and
obtain information about RA 10121 because it teaches us to be prepared and to have a safer adapted and
resilient country in spite of catastrophe strikes upon us.

In this last term, the concept that struck me more than anything is the develop and use criteria and processes to
set proprieties. The particular reasons for circumstance, It aims to guarantee that the most important issues for
your community are addressed. Using such a set of criteria and a good decision-making process makes it more
likely that you'll have the right priorities. It provides an opportunity for the community to be involved in the
effort and for community buy-in. Any effort is often more likely to succeed if it is felt and supported by the
community. An inclusive criteria-setting process ensures that you wouldn't miss anything that only stakeholders
know about. Community members, particularly those who are the most harmed by issues, may have a better and
clear understanding of what is important to the community and also which particular issues have the greatest
impact on people's lives. Setting up criteria in a structured and inclusive manner ensures that the process is open
and that any concerns are raised. It is essential to include those most affected by the problem. To sum up all that
has been said so far, the selection criteria provides an opportunity to educate stakeholders who have not had the
this kind of experience before on how to make informed, systematic decisions.
