Company Profile:

The Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines, Inc. (CCFPI) was established in November 1986
to consolidate the charitable and philanthropic work of The Coca-Cola Company and
Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines, Inc. (the local manufacturer of Coca-Cola) in the
Philippines. Since its inception, the Foundation has been able to help improve the lives of
over 20,000 Filipinos by supporting various programs in education, health, livelihood, and
disaster response.

Nomination Project:

Launched in 1997, the little Red Schoolhouse Program aims to provide access to
complete quality elementary education to Filipino children in remote and underserved
areas in the country. The program provides: 1) permanent, typhoon resistant 3-classroom
school buildings, with restrooms and complete classroom equipment to public multi-grade
elementary schools nationwide; 2) training on multi-grade instruction teachers, principals
and school supervisors; and 3) training and capability building for the Parent-Teacher-
Community Association (PTCA).

From January 2002 to March 2003, the Foundation built and turned over 22 schools to
the Department of Education (DepEd), to complete its initial 50-school commitment,
benefiting over 7,500 students annually. 321 teachers and administrators and 2,000
parents and community leaders have likewise benefited from the program’s workshops.

The Little Red Schoolhouse has brought significant changes to the schools and
communities. Enrollment in the schools has increased and dropout rates have
decreased. A number of PTCAs have formed cooperatives to generate supplemental
funds for school improvement projects. Local government units have begun to allocate
more resources and support to the communities including additional classrooms, roads,
water, and electrical connections. The DepEd has made the Little Red Schoolhouse a
model of private-sector government partnership. Thus far, three major Philippine
corporations have adapted the Little Red Schoolhouse model in their adopted
communities.
