Rocla Pipeline Products in Perth is

currently supplying precast drainage
products to civil contractor Ertech for
two new residential developments by
Peet & Company.
Peet is a household name in WA and Perth’s
oldest property developer. It was established in
1895 and has been involved in everything from
broad-acre residential land estates to medium-
density and boutique developments and retail
property sales.
Rocla is supplying drainage products for
Carramar Golf Course Estate in Perth’s northern
suburbs and The Ridge Estate at Baldivis,
south of the city, just two of Peet’s many lifestyle
residential developments in Perth and Victoria.
Ertech is another WA success story,
a small company established in 1981 that
has grown to become a significant player in 2
the civil construction industry, with more than
150 employees in city and regional locations,
including its own engineers, and its own plant
and equipment.
Ertech and Rocla have worked together
since the commencement of Ertech’s contracts
on both projects, with Rocla supplying a broad
variety of precast concrete stormwater pipes,
stormwater pits, side entry pits, gullies and
precast concrete sewer access chambers.
The relationship between Ertech and
Rocla is based on establishing and maintaining
consistent standards of quality, cost and time,
to provide the best level of service to all parties.

Concrete poles provide quick

solution for power line lift
Rocla Concrete Poles supplied 16 Duraspun® concrete
power poles to Enerserve (a division of Energy Australia) to
raise existing 132kV power lines along the southern part of
the Westlink M7. The existing lines, which cross over the M7
route, had to be raised to statutory clearances above the
new M7 to allow for safe construction. The pre-stressed
transmission poles ranged in size and from 35 metres to 40
metres with 80kN ultimate strength. All poles were supplied
in three sections and assembled on site using Rocla’s bolted
jointing system. Most of the poles were mounted in 2-metre
diameter, 6-metre deep piled footings, however some were
installed in 4-metre square, 4-metre deep mass concrete
footings for additional height. One set of poles, installed in
soft soil adjacent to a creek bed, required additional depth
and more than 100 cubic metres of mass concrete for each
pole. These tall, high-strength "monopoles" offer an
economical, attractive alternative to steel lattice towers in
many situations. The use of monopoles also allowed the two
132kV circuits to be raised separately, allowing one circuit to
continue supplying customers. Michael Taylor of Enerserve
said the Rocla® poles were specified for this project because
of their fast lead time, lower cost and ease of construction,
compared to steel lattice towers.

Gosford City Council recently installed a the project by supplying and installing its own handrail system based on Rocla’s

was raised to a height of 1.2 metres to clear
a watercourse.
Normally the PermaTrak ® system is
mounted on 150mm high precast concrete
stumps, which can be elevated with inter-
locking precast risers to bring the height of
the deck to 850mm. For heights above
850mm Rocla recommends the use of Rocla®
spun concrete pipes as support piers. On the
Kincumber project the pipe piers were set
into augured holes, with concrete footings.
Rocla ® concrete pipes make ideal piers
for the PermaTrak ® system because they are
compatible with the PermaTrak® stumps. The
stumps in turn are connected to bearers,
then the planks are fastened to the bearers,
as well as interlocking with each other via
tongue and groove connections.
The Kincumber boardwalk includes a
curved section at one end comprising 50
tapered treads. Gosford Council completed

Rocla Pipeline Products in Dubbo supplied this multi-cell headwall for a rail siding at Yethra,
560km west of Sydney.
The two headwalls (one on each side of the rail embankment) feature 25 cells with 750mm
diameter pipes. This is the most cells ever manufactured in one headwall by Rocla, and the last
project constructed in western NSW by the Rail Infrastructure Corporation before it was taken over
by Australian Rail Track Corporation.

Rocla Water Quality
ecoRain® rainwater utilisation system to reuse
the stormwater it was already planning to
detain on site.
Sunland’s Kevin Morse said the stormwater
had to be detained to reduce discharge flows:
“As part of our stormwater management plan,
we were required to hold some of the
stormwater on site, with the best method of
disposal of the water being irrigation of the
landscaped areas of the site.”
“We looked for an off-the-shelf solution
that could store rainwater underground and
pump it back through a landscape irrigation
system, and the ecoRain system seemed to fit
the bill,” Kevin said.
The installation includes four groups of
four ecoRain® tanks, each tank holding 10,000
litres. The tanks gather rainwater from the
roofs of some 70 townhouses and duplexes
plus three single dwellings.
Tanks in each group of four are connected
by balancing pipes top and bottom to ensure
they are filled and emptied at a uniform rate.
Rainwater entering each cluster of tanks
passes through an industrial-volume filter that
is self-cleansing and can filter water at a rate
of 50 litres per second.
The Rocla ecoRain® system is a self-
contained water supply comprising under-
ground concrete tank storage, filter, electric
pump and automated control system. If the
water level in the storage tank drops below 10
per cent, mains water is used to top up the
system. Back-flow controls and air gaps prevent
contamination of the potable water supply. Large-capacity stainless steel filters remove debris and wash it into the stormwater system.
