The first class I went to in university was English, and it changed my mind. Our first assignment
was to discuss the reading techniques, APA styling, and sentences on good adjective words,
descriptive, narrative, expositive and reflecting writing essays, I was extremely nervous about
the assignment. However, through all the confusion in English class, many of my questions
about life were answered.

I entered University intending to earn a degree in Commerce. I always liked the way
mathematics had right and wrong answers. I understood the logic and was very good at it. So
when I received my first English assignment that asked me to write these things and essay topics,
I was instantly confused. What is the right way to do this assignment, I wondered? I was nervous
about writing an incorrect explanation and did not want to get my first assignment wrong. Even
more troubling was that the professor refused to give us any guidelines on what he was looking
for; he gave us total freedom. He simply said, “I want to see what you come up with.”

What I learned through this process extended well beyond how to write a university paper. I
learned to be open to new challenges. I never expected to enjoy a English class and always
expected to be a Accounting and maths person. This class and assignment, however, gave me the
self-confidence, critical-thinking skills, and courage to try a new career path. More important,
that class and paper helped me to understand education differently. Instead of seeing university
as a direct stepping stone to a career, I learned to see
university as a place to first learn and then seek a
career or enhance an existing career. By giving me the
space to express my own interpretation and to argue
for my own values, my philosophy class taught me the
importance of education for education’s sake. That
realization continues to pay dividends every day.

The professor gave me 14 marks out of 15 on the

assignment, and his email suggested that I choose an
effective essay overall.

Biases and Barriers in a Student Life:

Well said;

“Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain You are young and life is long, and
there is time to kill today And then one day you find, ten years has got behind you No one told you
when to run, you missed the starting gun”. —

David Gilmour, Nick Mason, Roger Waters

and Richard Wright of Pink Floyd, “Time”

Decision Making

Decision making is inherently a cognitive barrier, the result of thinking that may be either
rational or irrational (i.e., based on assumptions not supported by evidence). Individual
characteristics including personality and experience influence how people make decisions. As
such, an individual’s predispositions can either be an obstacle or an enabler to the decision-
making process.

Anxiety

Spending too much time on electronic devices may be preventing young students from in-person
activities with their peers such as sports, which can help ward off depression. They also
experience new conditions like "fear of missing out" or FOMO, which further leads to feelings of
loneliness and isolation.

Bullying

It's also important to talk to child about when and how to get help from an adult. Remind them
that asking for help is not a sign of weakness, but instead a show of courage. Talking about how
someone has humiliated them is never an easy topic.

Sexual Activity or Relation

Parents may not be aware that their children are sexually active, however. Talk to your teen
about sex, even if you don't think your child is engaging in sexual activity.

Drug Use
Unfortunately, teens often underestimate how easy it is to develop an addiction. And they don't
understand the risks associated with overdosing. Be sure you are talking about these risks on a
consistent basis

Juan Cala from Cadiz could be seen covering his mouth with his hand after coming into contact
with the defender of Valencia; Mouctar Diakhaby, around the 30 minute mark of the game.
Diakhaby was angry following their exchange and followed Cala across the pitch, where he was
eventually pulled back by some of his teammates and opposition players. After talking with one
of his teammates Gabriel Paulista and the match referee about what happened, Diakhaby led the
rest of his Valencia teammates off the pitch and down the tunnel. Due to the incident Valencia
said it offered its "complete backing" to Diakhaby. Valencia's La Liga match against Cádiz on
Sunday was suspended for 20 minutes. "The Club did not ask the players to return to the pitch,”
Valencia’s referee informed the players of the consequences of not going back out onto the
field. Diakhaby and his teammates were forced to play under threat of penalty after the racist
insult.
