TONGUE
Description The tongue is a highly flexible muscular organ capable of initiating complex movements.

Function The tongue serves a digestive function by promoting food movement during mastication and
assisting with swallowing. Additionally, speech and taste are other vital functions.

LIVER
Description The liver is a large, meaty organ located on the right side of the abdomen. The liver weighs
about 3 pounds and is reddish-brown in color with a rubbery texture. The liver is divided into
two large parts known as the right and left lobes.
Function Production and excretion of bile; Bilirubin, cholesterol, hormones, and drugs are removed from
the body; Fats, proteins, and carbohydrates are all metabolized; Activation of enzymes;
Glycogen, vitamins, and minerals are stored in the liver; Detoxification and purification of the
blood

GALL BLADDER
Description Gallbladder is a small pouch located directly under the liver.

Function It is used to store bile, a fluid formed by the liver that aids in the digestion of fatty foods. When
the gallbladder is not in use for digestion, it acts as a reservoir for bile. The absorbent lining of
the gallbladder concentrates the accumulated bile.

PANCREAS
Description The pancreas is a flat gland, approximately six-inch-long that is located across the back of the
abdomen, behind the stomach. It has both endocrine and exocrine functions.
Function The pancreas produces pancreatic juices known as enzymes. These enzymes are responsible for
the breakdown of sugars, fats, and starches. Additionally, the pancreas aids your digestive
system by producing hormones.
