A. Introduction

Boarding houses are one of the most in demand establishments

when it comes to study and work in other places. Boarding houses

have uniqueness in character. They all aim to provide an

environment that will safeguard and promote the welfare, happiness,

and proper physical and emotional development of students and

tenants, as well as protecting them from the risk of harm or neglect.

Boarding houses provide low-cost accommodation to some of the

most marginal and disadvantaged members of the community.

Residents occupy a precarious position in the private housing market

are generally of low income, and many also have physical, intellectual,

social and psychological difficulties which affect their everyday

functioning to varying degrees. Boarding houses are an important

source of affordable accommodation.

Given the advantages of boarding houses, there are also matters

to be considered specially for the admin, staff and tenants. Managing a

boarding house business is a difficult task. Problems like losing track of

tenants’ information, difficulty in reservation and billing process may be

encountered. Therefore, an automated system is designed to provide

convenience not only for the admin and staff but also for the tenants.

Asupra (2001), studied an automated system of billing and

reservation for “Pearl Manor Pension House” Incorporated. After a

careful study by the researchers it has been found out that the

employees’ encounters problem with their present system, these

problems are: a. time consuming in processing check-in. b. delayed

computation of bills and c. time consuming processing of reservation.

After a careful study of the current system of Pearl Manor Pension

House, Incorporated, the group came with a conclusion to; automate

their system. The automation of the system will give advantages to the

company because it will make the computation of bills a lot easier and

more accurate.

The automated system provides an online web application

that is accessible anywhere around the Philippines. The online web

application caters direct room reservation for paying guests. On the

other hand, the system saves labor to the admin and staff. It is capable

of recording, maintaining and keeping track of tenants’ information and

offers a hassle-free billing system.

Cagalawan (2003), studied and proposed an online hotel

reservation for Bacolod Executive Inn. The findings of the study

stressed that some problems exist in their current system namely: a.

time delay in updating email reservation processing, b. difficulties in

confirmation of the availability of rooms in walk and telephone

reservation and c. report generation is time consuming. As the result of

investigation and observation to the existing reservation procedures,

the group came with a conclusion that the Bacolod Executive Inn

particularly the reservation must be developed through an online

system for their better service.

The online web application will also provide promotion to the

establishment which is an advantage in maximizing customers. Thus,

the system will be the one responsible to process all the transactions.

B. Statement of the Problem

The study was intended to develop and design an automated

Boarding House Reservation and Monitoring System. Specifically, this

sought to answer the following questions:

 Is Abang Online Room Reservation and Monitoring

System capable of recording tenants’ information?

 Is Abang Online Room Reservation and Monitoring

System capable of maintaining and keeping track of

tenants’ information?

 How will Abang Online Room Reservation and Monitoring

System provide convenience in terms of billing process?

C. Objectives

The objective of Abang Online Room Reservation and Monitoring

System is to able to enhance manual system to automated system in a

web-based application. This is to develop a system that enables the

monitoring and retrieving of tenants’ information who is occupying at

any room in a secured way. This will give convenience to the

administration in their establishment.

 To develop and design a web-based application for

monitoring and retrieving tenant information for Ericka’s

boarding house.
 To cater direct reservation for Ericka’s boarding house

through web-based application.

 To provide an easier and accurate billing computation for

within the establishment.

 This will provide a labor-saving environment.

 The admin and the staff will not have a hard time in

monitoring and retrieving the information from the occupant.

E. Scope and Limitation

Boarding House Room Reservation and Monitoring system aims

to develop a system that provides convenience and ease of use to the

establishment. It is a web-based that enables to reserve a vacancy

for the tenants and monitors the occupant’s information that is

occupying at any room. This system provides a clear insight of the

billing information of the tenants’ history.
