1. In your own words explain/ discuss why we study soil

- Soils exist as natural ecosystems on the surface of Earth made up of macro and
microorganisms, minerals, organic matter, air, and water. Soils are living systems
that provide many of the most fundamental functions needed for life like storing heat
and water, Filtering water and wastes, and Decomposing wastes

2. Explain “Soil is the medium for plant growth”

- The temperature of the soil warms the soil which aids in the decomposition of litter,
speeding up the nutrient cycle and allowing nutrients to be released more quickly.
Even though soil provides all of the necessary elements for plant growth except light,
it is referred to as a natural medium of plant growth.
