REFLECTION:

(Importance of Early Language Literacy and Numeracy

Program as an Early Education Teacher)
Literacy acquisition is extremely varied and
complex, and is constructed by the learner since every
child is unique and has different life experiences. Early
literacy skills are more likely to be developed when
children have access to printed material, pens and
paper, and have parents who value literacy and model
reading and writing. However, in rural areas of our city,
printed matter, pens and paper, and literate parents
are most often not available. The reality is that children
with limited literacy experiences will succeed if they go
to preschool and their teachers provide a rich
environment for literacy acquisition: shared reading,
rhyming songs and books, opportunities for speaking
in front of a group, conversations, peer interaction
through play, and opportunities for drawing and
writing. As an early education teacher, I should
understand how literacy skills are acquired and what is
considered to be developmentally appropriate since I
play a vital role in the facilitation of play and language
experiences.

In your Journal Notebook write a reflection
on how you can be responsive to the needs of
our Filipino Muslim learners.

The Department of Education (DepEd) aims to

have an education system that is inclusive to all
learners, without compromising the 21st century
learning standards. To make this possible, DepEd
implements various programs that focus on the
special needs of learners – one of which is the
Madrasah Education Program (MEP), a
comprehensive program for Muslim learners in
public schools and private madaris which provides
appropriate and relevant educational opportunities
within the context of their cultures, customs,
traditions and interests.

As a teacher, I will promote equality inside the

classroom. I will teach my learners that respecting
others are important specially to the beliefs and
culture of Muslim learners. Also, to avoid bullying
which is one of the reasons why conflict exist, I will
always remind my learners to behave accordingly
and to be kind at all times. I will also be a good role
model to them respecting the culture of my Muslim
learners.

REFLECTION:
As a teacher, it is important to consider
individual differences of learners because
through this we can cater all the
exceptionalities and giftedness of every
learner. We can give the best that fits and
suits on each learner’s specialties so that
they can excel on their chosen field.

I realized that I play an important role

as a teacher in the lives of my learners’ by
doing the best so that each learner can
hone their specialties. It is important to
consider their individual differences so
that they will enjoy and be motivated each
lesson. Through specialized instruction
materials made for them.
