 CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

A. Background of The Study

Video is an electronic medium that is able to combine audio and

visual technology together to produce a dynamic and attractive
presentation. Videos can be packaged in VCD and DVD format so they
are easy to carry everywhere, easy to use, can reach a wide audience and
are interesting to broadcast.

Video media has a function as a learning medium, namely attention

function, affective function, cognitive function and compensatory function
(Arsyad 2003). The function of attention is that the video media can attract
attention and direct the audience's concentration to the video material. The
affective function, namely the video media is able to arouse emotions and
attitudes of the audience. Cognitive function can accelerate the
achievement of learning goals to understand and remember messages or
information contained in images or symbols. Meanwhile, the
compensatory function is to provide context to an audience whose abilities
are weak in organizing and recalling the information that has been
obtained. Thus video media can help audiences, namely students who are
weak and slow to capture a message, become easy to accept and
understand the innovations conveyed, this is because video is able to
combine visuals (images) with audio (sound).
The selection of video as a medium for disseminating innovation,
apart from being able to combine visuals with audio, can also be packaged
in various forms, for example combining face-to-face communication with
group communication, using text, audio and music. According to Sudjana
and Rivai (1992) the benefits of video media are: (1) it can foster
motivation; (2) the meaning of the message will become clearer so that it
can be understood by students and allows mastery and achievement of
 delivery goals. Learning videos that are intended to make it easier for
students to understand the subject matter are not always in accordance
with the needs and desires of students.
B. Purpose of The Study
Writer makes this paper for several purposes, there are :
a. To find out about the definition of innovative videos
b. To find out about Snack Video app
c. To find out about history of Snack Video app
d. To find out about how Snack Video can be popular
e. To find out about why should we learn innovative videos
f. To find out about how to get money from Snack Video
g. To analyze another product of Snack Video

DISCUSSION

A. Definition of Innovative Videos

Innovative which means new ideas or techniques, is an adjective of

innovation which means renewal. According to Everett M. Rogers,
innovation is an idea, idea, object, and practice that is based on and
accepted as something new by a certain person or group to be applied or
adopted. According to Van de Ven, Andrew H., innovation is the
development and implementation of new ideas by people within a certain
period of time carried out by various transaction activities within a certain
organizational structure. Meanwhile, according to Kuniyoshi Urabe,
innovation is any activity that cannot be produced with one hit, but rather a
long and cumulative process, covering many decision-making processes,
from finding ideas to implementing them in the market. In Oxford
Languages the definition of innovative is (of a product, idea, etc.)
featuring new methods; advanced and original while (of a person)
introducing new ideas; original and creative in thinking.

Video is an electronic medium for the recording, copying,

playback, broadcasting, and display of moving visual media. Video was
first developed for mechanical television systems, which were quickly
replaced by cathode ray tube (CRT) systems which were later replaced
by flat panel displays of several types. Video systems vary in display
resolution, aspect ratio, refresh rate, color capabilities and other qualities.
Analog and digital variants exist and can be carried on a variety of media,
including radio broadcast, magnetic tape, optical discs, computer files,
and network streaming.

Innovative videos are developing or implementing new ideas,

objects, practices that have been accepted as something new and then
applied or adopted by society in the form of videos. There are many
 application for posting innovative video like YouTube, Instagram, Twitter,
Facebook, Tiktok, Snack Video, Like and so on. And in this part we will
discuss about Snack Video App and how to get money from this
application.

B. Definition of Snack Video

Kuaishou (Chinese: 快 手 ; lit. 'quick hand') is a Chinese video-

sharing mobile app developed by Beijing Kuaishou Technology Co., Ltd,
with a particularly strong user base among users outside of China's Tier 1
cities. Outside Mainland China, it has also gained considerable popularity
in other markets, topping the Google Play and Apple App Store's "Most
Downloaded" lists in eight countries. In India, this app was known
as Snack Video. It is often referred to as "Kwai" in overseas markets. Its
main competitor is Douyin, which is known as TikTok outside of China.

Kuaishou was founded by Su Hua (宿华) and Cheng Yixiao (程一

笑). Prior to co-founding Kuaishou, Su Hua had worked for both Google
and Baidu as a software engineer. The company is headquartered
in Haidian District, Beijing.

Snack Video is a short video social platform for all users to record
and share their lives, with the core mission to "Capture the World, Share
Your Story". Snack Video topped Google Play and Apple App Store’s
Most Downloaded lists in eight countries in 2020. The average MAU
worldwide reached 776 million in the first half of last year. Active users
on the platform spent an average of more than 85 minutes daily on its main
app.

C. History of Snack Video

Snack Video is the earliest short video platform of

China. Kuaishou's predecessor, "GIF Kuaishou", was founded in March
2011. GIF Kuaishou was a mobile app created to make and
share GIF pictures. In November 2012, Kuaishou transformed into a short
 video community, and a platform for users to record and share videos
depicting their everyday lives. By 2013, the app had already reached 100
million daily users. By 2019, that figure had surpassed 200 million active
daily users.

In March 2017, Kuaishou closed a US$350 million investment round led

by Tencent. In January 2018, Forbes estimated the company's valuation to
be US$18 billion.

In 2019, the company announced a partnership with the People's Daily, an

official newspaper of the Communist Party of China, to help it experiment
with artificial intelligence in news.

In March 2020, Kuaishou purchased the online video platform AcFun.

In June 2020, the Government of India banned Kwai along with 58 other

apps, citing "data and privacy issues". Recent border tensions between
India and China might have also played a role in the ban, as there has been
an increasingly political "Boycott China" movement in India due to
the competitive relations between the two countries in recent years.

In January 2021, Kuaishou announced it was planning an initial public

offering that would seek to raise approximately US$5 billion. Kuaishou's
stock completed its first day of trading at $300 HKD ($38.70 USD),
surpassing its initial offer price by more than double the amount, and
causing its market value to skyrocket to over $1 trillion HKD ($159 billion
USD).

In Feb 2021, Kuaishou’s shares began trading at HK$338 per share and
rose by as much as 200 per cent to HK$345 versus its IPO price of
HK$115. The stock closed at HK$300 on Friday, valuing the 10-year-old
unprofitable company at HK$1.23 trillion (US$159 billion)

In Feb. 2021, shares of Chinese short video app company Kuaishou

jumped 194% at the open on its Hong Kong debut.

D. How Snack Video Can be Popular

 The short video social application Snack Video has topped the
Google Play Store Indonesia mobile app ranking and has dominated the
first rank since 22 June 2020. This makes Snack Video the most
downloaded application by Android users and since its appearance, Snack
Video has attracted millions of active users in Indonesia.

As a relatively new application in Indonesia, the popularity of

Snack Video is growing rapidly. As an entertainment technology
application, Snack Video has a unique algorithm. Every video that is
recommended is according to the interests and habits of the user, besides
that sometimes the Snack Video algorithm also expands the boundaries of
the interests of each user to avoid repetition of existing content and
information.

The Snack Video mechanism in terms of traffic and promotion of a

video content really pays attention to the quality of the video produced
compared to the popularity of the content creator. Therefore they believe
that everyone without exception has the uniqueness and characteristics to
become a star. Starting from this mission, Snack Video provided the
platform as a stage for aspiring stars to be recognized and recognized by
many people. In addition, there are various programs for users, such as
Gebyar Lebaran Snack, Snack Weekly Star, and the latest Original Rising
Music Talent. Every user can take part in a program that is up-to-date and

those users who are searching for similar keywords. In addition to that,

the times. Innovative video is a work made by creative people and full of
ideas which aims to convey an idea, discovery, ideas to the audience. In
addition, by learning and making innovative videos, surely someone will
be more motivated to improve their skills in order to keep up with current
technological advances.

Many video and social media applications can be used to increase

skills and hone confidence in becoming a content creator. With the success
and popularity of the innovative videos that were made it can be a source
of income if we are willing to persevere in it. Be someone who is thirsty
for new knowledge, ideas, ideas, inventions and make videos that can keep
up with technological advances.

It is important for today's generation, especially prospective

educators, to learn to make creative and innovative learning videos in
 accordance with developments so that later students will have high
motivation to learn because they are interested in the learning media used.

Advantages of this account:

1. This account gives positive energy even it’s only a short video
but it can give knowledge to the audience.
2. Learning English casually because in the videos the account
owner delivers material with humor.
3. The owner of the account is fluent in English.

Disadvantages:

1. The video posted are not interesting because the account

owner not given any filters or effects. It should be made more
creative so that the audience is more interested and excited to
see the next content.
 2. Inconsistent account owner in creating content. Because not
all of this account contain learning English.
3. Because this video is posted on Snack Video which is
identically is an humor application. So the account owner
deliberately adds humor in conveying the content. But there
are harsh words hat are not appropriate for children to hear.
H. Make a Product

We try to make an account in the Snack Video platform that

focuses our content is English material, and in this video the content is
about offering something. Offering something is a type of expression that
we want to offer something to someone else. We make a short video with

editing application. Next, enter to the Snack Video application and press
the (+) feature to add the video that has been prepared. Then upload it.
Advantages and Dsisadvantages of Snack Video

Advantages :

1. Money-Making Snack Video Application

This point is probably one of the main reasons why many people try
this app. It is true that currently there is an event where members can
collect cash or coins. Where later the cash or coins that have been

Disadvantages:

1. Snack videos have been blocked

It has been reported that the snack video application is blocked in
several countries, even in Indonesia, this application has been detected

2. The snack video was accused of plagiarism
It doesn't stop there, it turns out that snack videos have also been
considered or claimed to be plagiarism applications and have been
reported. This often happens especially because there is a link between
being inspired and imitating. It even resembles being the right word.
Behind the viral and busy users and short video enthusiasts. There are
pros and cons to the existence of this kind of application, not a few
also suggest that this application be removed because it can also
damage morals.
 CHAPTER III

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, that innovative video is all about videos made from the
emergence of new ideas, ideas, inventions and then creatively packaged for
viewing to the general public. Innovative videos are designed as attractive as
possible to attract the attention of the general public so that these ideas, ideas,
discoveries can be conveyed and become new things to be enjoyed and followed
by their development. In this digital era, we must develop our potential with
existing technological advances. So that you can take advantage of existing
benefits and not be technologically illiterate. With so many digital media, it is a
separate support to continue to hone talents and abilities. some of those media can
also make money if we really want to do it. but still be someone who is smart in
improving self quality without cheating.
