My Purpose for application of student visa is to pursue Diploma of Hospitality Management in

Duke College Level-1, 20 Macquarie St. Parramatta, NSW 2150 Australia. My main aim on
writing this proposal is to mention upon you very carefully about professional as well as
personal reasons for applying Australia for my further studies and also to convince you of
myself superior future value to the related field.

Introduction:
It is my ambition to work as a key player in challenging and creative environment, to be
instrumental in organization’s growth, to realize my potential and explore myself in productive
manner and thus, to prove myself to be an asset for a related industry. I belong to the field of
management which had been the dream I had and also a long term desire. Beside this, I am a
fun loving, active, caring, sensitive and intelligent girl. Visiting new places, watching movies
and listening music are my passions. I am entering the most crucial phase in my life; a phase
during which I need to make significant academic decisions.

Here, I am very glad to introduce myself as Sujata Bhandari, holding passport number
07946259, Daughter of Bishnu Bahadur Bhandari and Mrs. Sarita Bhandari, a permanent
residence of Jwalamukhi Rural Municipality, Ward no. 4, Dhading, Nepal. I was born on 1998
June 30 on Dhading, Nepal.

Educational Background:
I have completed my schooling from the most prominent school i.e. Greenland Secondary
Boarding School located at Kathmandu, Nepal on 2013 with First division holding 61.13%.
Thereafter, I joined intermediate level in management stream with Accountancy and Hotel
Management as major subjects and eventually completed the two-year program from
Southwestern State Higher Secondary School located at Kathmandu with Second division in
2015 securing 59.90%.

Regarding my English Language Proficiency Test examination, I appeared International

English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic test on Jan 21, 2017 and scored overall
5.5 (each band not less than 5.5).
Family Background:

My father, Mr. Bishnu Bahadur Bhandari is a farmer at Jwalamukhi Rural Municipality. My

father is the primary source of income in my family. My mother, Mrs. Sarita Bhandari is a
housewife as well as farmer. We have cultivable land in Dhading in which different food crops
are grown which is also another source of income. The income from our land lease, income
from house rent and milk selling are the sources of income.

Gap Explanation and Work Experience:

After the completion of higher secondary education, I got an opportunity to join Choice Hotel
Pvt. Ltd. where I applied my theoretical knowledge into real working environment. I worked
there as Receptionist from August 25, 2015 to October 13, 2017. During my tenure, I learned
about the professional working environment, team work and co-operation as well asthe
opportunity to improve my skills. After working as a Receptionist for more than a couple of
year, I realized that I need to study further in hospitality field to achieve my career goal.

Why Not Nepal?

There is clear crystal difference between the quality of education in developed and developing
country. But I am not indicating that the education I get in Nepal is useless. Here, In Nepal
teaching method is prioritize theoretically, practical basis knowledge is not more practiced
whereas Hospitality related course needs more practical knowledge. After my +2, I did a lot of
research on the availability of diploma degrees in Nepal. I searched online and even went for
visits to different colleges in Kathmandu, Nepal. The small range of studying topic and
theoretical education in Nepal repels my interest study abroad.

In Nepal, Tribhuvan University is the leading education provider with 1084 affiliated colleges
all over Nepal. The course duration and the course content did not make me proficient enough
to join the hospitality sector. The education system in Nepal has not embraced change in a
course of time. I looked at the diploma courses and consulted some teachers about the course
they said that the course book taught today has still old context which my seniors read.

I got amused but moreover I came to realize that education in Nepal needed a change. It was
saddening to know that students still had the parental or teachers pressure to compete in
Science and Mathematics irrespective of their interest. This event made me to question the
education system of Nepal. There is no use of advanced technologies in educational sector in
comparison to Australia which isn’t sufficient for student to understand and grab the
knowledge of particular subjects. Moreover, the entrance examination is held once a year and
the qualification from Nepalese college don’t have global recognition as compared to other
developed countries.

Finally, I thought studying in Nepal might make me capable but it will not make me competent
in the days come and also in this era and age of competition, if I get an international degree it
has high value in my country and which will allow me to get into a big restaurant with better
post, better facility and a better career.

Why not other countries?

A correct decision will give the international student to boost and outline their career in correct
way. I started researching for options online and as other students; I came across a wide range
of universities and courses in countries like India, United States of America, United Kingdom,
Japan, Canada and few other countries.

The first option for me was United States of America because of the reputation they have for
their education and the presence of universities like Harvard University, Stanford University,
and University of Chicago and so on which is categorized under top universities. Despite
having such reputation, I did not choose to apply USA because of its unsafe environment. The
crime rate in USA is high, frequent mass shooting and crimes are common in USA. Also, USA
usually requires SAT in order to enroll in their university. If I start a preparation for SAT it
would require me at least 3 months of classes and 1 month of study before appearing the
examinations. So, I did not find it fruitful to waste four months of my time studying SAT as the
time could be utilized for various other things. The universities of USA require lengthy tests
like GRE, GMAT, SAT etc. In addition, Australia is livable than USA as far as the security
factor is concerned. Similarly, In United Kingdom, course fee and living expenses are higher
than Australia as pound sterling exchange rate is very high. United Kingdom did not require
SAT, GRE, GMAT but the living and course fee are higher than that of Australia. Also, my
parents don’t feel me safe in UK because recent gun fire, terrorist attack and terrorist
bombings. Also, international student isn’t protected by any sort of acts like ESOS act in
Australia. Likewise, Canada, which is also a developed country, has a wide number of virtuous
universities but due to unbearable climate i.e. extremely cold, I dropped the research for
Canada because I cannot endure drastic cold weather. In Canada, it is primarily very difficult to
adjust in Canadian climate since the temperature might fall down to -25 to -30 degrees Celsius
which is extreme to cope. In case of Japan, I will definitely face language problem as Japanese
hardly speak English. In that respect, I need to learn Japanese language before going there
which is very hard for me to do so in a quick time. I did not want to migrate to Japan as the
language barrier is the hindering factor. I firmly believe that without fluent intercommunication
education will get tough and if I went to Japan I would have hard time learning and getting
used to Japanese language.

So, I chose Australia as English was the formal language of education and it did not require
exams like SAT and the living expenses and tuition fees were affordable and it also had the
approach of teaching beyond the text.

Why Australia?
Australia with its beautiful beaches, great restaurant, the stunning outback and surface filled
oceans and year- long pleasant weather is a tourist’s delight. It is also a great place to study
tourism and hospitality-related courses.

Basically, Australia is home to some of the world’s leading universities. 19 universities were
ranked among top 400 universities in 2013/14 in Times higher education world university
rankings. Australia offers a diverse range of study option for international students with more
than 1110 institutions and nearly, 22000 courses to choose from. This country also has been
ranked as 15th in the world’s safest place. The criminal rate is very low in Australia, which is
the one of the greatest positive aspect which made me to be attracted on security aspect.
Australia offers an educational experience that makes a real difference. It provides a unique
kind of teaching method that makes one to be innovative, creative and think independently.
I started researching for opportunities abroad so that my education would not be limited to
parrot-fashion learning, instead I wanted to study in a country where practical education and
skills were valued more than grades obtained by writing mugged up theories. I found Australia
to be a destination that complied with my needs. I found the study environment in Australia to
be a safe place for students who want to accomplish their goals in life.

According to Federal Education Department, there were 554,179 full-fee paying international
students in 2016, an increase of more than 10% on the previous year. The most attractive factor
about Australian education is that Australian education settings are thoroughly controlled by its
government to maintain its quality of education and facilities. ESOS Act (Education service for
Overseas Students) ensures students have a safe, enjoyable and quality study in Australia, its
framework protects the rights of international students, students can receive current and
accurate information about course, fees, modes of study and other information from the
institution before enrolling. The safety of tuition fees of a student is secured by Tuition
Protection Service (TPS). Also, the Overseas Student Ombudsman (OSO) service investigates
the complaints about problems that overseas students face during their stay in Australia. The
service is free of cost and impartial. Overseas students studying in Australia in any private
institutions or training instructions can get help from this service. Another factor for choosing
Australia is it provides multinational learning environment which will assist me to learn new
culture, languages, and nationalities as well as international exposure which will help a student
to get familiar with a different kind of academic pattern that would challenge our skills as a
student. This would help us to learn to adapt to new situations and it would certainly encourage
us to perform to the best of our abilities.

I find that Australian universities provide internationally recognized degrees and Australian
graduates are highly qualified, competent, and accepted everywhere around the world. Because
of security reasons; Australia is more preferable than other European destinations. Moreover,
Australia’s standard of living is very high. Australia is one of the preferred destinations for
Nepalese Students as the weather of Australia is similar to that of Nepal which adds up for the
selection of Australia as ultimate destination for the students.

Beside this, the main reasons behind choosing Australia to pursue my higher education are:-

 Global Recognition

Schools and employers all over the world recognize degrees from Australian schools.
Graduates from Australian schools are highly sought after due to the impressive
international reputation of the Australian education system. This system is carefully
regulated by the Australian government in order to maintain the high standards of
education associated with the country.

 Cost of Living

Australia’s standard of living is amongst the highest in the world. Living expenses and
tuition costs are considerably lower in Australia than they are in the United States and
United Kingdom. International students are able to work part time while they study,
allowing them to offset their living costs. There is also the possibility of scholarships,
which can help to lower the cost of studying in Australia for international students.

 Technology
One of the most appealing aspects of the country for international students is the
quality of scientific research. Australia is at the forefront of new technology and
innovations. Students who study in Australia can take advantage the country’s
impressive technology and research resources. Australia has a reputation for adopting
new technologies at a faster rate than in most other countries and enters the new
millennium with one of the highest rates of internet access in the world. Facilities for
teaching, training and research are world-class in terms of state-of-the-art laboratories
and classrooms, outstanding libraries and modern technology. Australian institutions
adopt modern tools and updated technology for teaching and learning process which
enables to gain sufficient knowledge about such technology which is lack in Nepal’s
education.

 Work

Students can earn while they learn because students are allowed to work up to 20 hours
per week while they are studying in Australia. After their post-graduation they have two
years of Post Study Work (PSW) which will be equally helpful for students so that they
will gain some international job experience and add plus points in the student career.
This is a great opportunity for students who want to gain work experience in their field
of interest after their study completion.

 Diversity

Institutions in Australia offer a wide variety of courses and degrees, so international

students can easily find the school and field that are right for them. The first decision
international students have to make when choosing a degree program is which type of
school is most catered to their needs and interests. Students can choose between
universities, vocational education, and English language training. Every year Australia
welcomes international students from 80 countries which provide me to learn and
practice new culture and tradition.

Why Duke College?

While I was searching for best possible destination and best education provider in Australia, I
research many Colleges: Australia Institute of Business and Technology (AIBT), International
College of Hotel Management (ICHM), Duke College and many more. All of these universities
are listed as top academic institutions and have a good reputation on research as well. But, I
choose Duke College for my further study; my diploma program because course structure is
well developed, tuition fees are comparatively lower than other colleges, location is much
favorable then other colleges, in addition, Duke College also offers industry placement for
international students which other most of the universities doesn’t offer. Following are some
reasons to choose Duke College:

diploma of hospitality management.

Reasons to choose Hospitality Management:

Hospitality as a career is an assured one because hospitality as an industry can never wane and
never can it come to an end. Hospitality is distinctive business activity and has a critical role in
global economy leading to create percentage of job worldwide. And also it performs major role
in satisfying guest requirement in one or the other way. The hospitality field, by definition, is a
service industry. Its task is to create shareholder wealth by servicing and satisfying guests.
Industry segments include, among others: hotels, restaurants, private clubs, managed food
service, event planning, tourism related businesses, and travel providers

Looking at the fast growing hospitality industry, it is necessary to have a strong base in
education and work experience. There is a scope of continuous growth and learning through
practical experience depending on capabilities too. Building a foundation in a subject is good
but in order to excel in the subject we will need a lot of study on the subject so that we can go
in-depth and conceptualize all the information. As in my primary year of Diploma I will be
learning how to identify risk and apply risk management process, I will have the knowledge to
organize meetings that can be useful to businesses as resources can be shared within a co-
worker. I will be working with idea of Report on financial activity; I can produce informative
output for business and even public by analyzing the data. This will be a practical application
of the module Human resource, Marketing and Leadership management in my Diploma of
Hospitality Management course. This is why I chose Diploma in hospitality management. The
career prospects of after completion of this course are:

 Administrator
 Project officer
 Café owner or manager
 Club secretary or manager
 Executive chef,
 Executive housekeeper
 Executive sous chef
 Food and beverage manager,
 Head chef,
 Hotel owner or manager,
 Rooms division manager,
 Area manager or operations manager

Course Structure

When I was going through Duke’s website the course just mesmerized me, I got to know that
joining in Diploma makes me more knowledgeable in Hospitality field. The course will help
me to gain specialized skills and also helps me to implement them in hospitality sector. This is
why I chose to study Diploma of Hospitality Management as I wanted to be effective hotelier at
the end of my study.

Career Plans after completion of my studies

After gaining a valuable set of skill from Duke College, I firmly believe that I will become an
individual with higher critical, analytical, reasoning and managing skills. The career prospects
of Diploma of Hospitality Management include administrator, project officer, café owner or
manager, club secretary or manager, executive chef, executive housekeeper, executive sous
chef, food and beverage manager, head chef, motel owner or manager, rooms division
manager, rooms division manager, area manager or operations manager and so on.

My career plan is to become an executive chef with knowledge of business, marketing and
cooking. Nepal has become an emerging tourist hub in South-Asia. This opens a lot of
opportunities for small cafes, aspiring chefs, traditional foods, cooks etc. Also, the basic salary
for an executive chef in Nepal is around NRS 50,000 for newbie and can reach up to NRS
2,50,000 per month for internationally experienced and graduated personal. I cannot open a
startup upfront without investigating the Nepali market so upon my return I will join a
hospitality industry so that I can understand about the cost of operation and possible sectors to
explore. One sector I would like to invest my skill in is “cheap and blended Nepali cultural
food with international cuisines” which will be affordable to any class of society as I have seen
only rich persons are enjoying such food whereas poor people haven’t still seen those foods
with their own eyes. My motto is “FOOD FOR ALL”.

The system of Nepal is changing from manual to digital in a rapid pace. Businesses have now
started to adapt digital methods of advertisements, digital storage of data and a lot more. As a
sound knowledge from as a base course, I will have knowledge to run a business with customer
satisfaction. Also, these days’ business runs because of proper and adequate marketing and the
marketing knowledge I will get from business studies will help me to prosper my own business
or the company I work in.

To summarize, I as an executive chef will like to utilize the concept of business, marketing,
management, leadership and cooking skills to create efficient systems that will be useful for
enterprise and customer’s satisfaction, as for every business ‘customer always comes first’.
Reasons to return back to my home country
After the completion of my Diploma, I will return to my home country as I have
responsibilities towards my parents. My parents have spent half of their life on educating me
and helping me transform into a better human. After the completion of my studies and with
skills in my hand, I will have to support my parents who have supported me till the date. I must
assure that their retirement life is worth all the hardships that they went through during my
upbringing.

As my primary objective of migrating to Australia is for studies, I will be returning back to

Nepal to contribute to the sector of Hospitality Industry. As a student, the incompetency of
Nepali education lures me towards Australia but as skilled personnel I will prefer to build and
sustain a product in Nepal as the market is emerging and hungry for professionally skilled
hospitality sector personnel. According to the Parliament of Australia (http://www.aph.gov.au/)
website hospitality industry shares only 11.8% of the total employment of the country whereas
in Nepal, we are having a skills shortage. Also, an article published in Kathmandu Post, 53%
people in Nepal now travelling and spending in domestic tourism apart from international
tourism: which is one of the important factors of GDP of Nepal which means that the Nepali
market is growing to a greater extent. So, it would be beneficial from a career point of view to
return back to Nepal.

The idea of techniques to boom the hospitality industry that I want to create in Nepali market
already exists in the globally apart from few economically poor countries. It would be
challenging to create a bridge that will have to compete with existing tourist destination like
Switzerland, India, Thailand and many more. As I mentioned earlier, I want to blend Nepali
cultural food with international cuisines and I will try to market that very point to attract
tourists to visit once to have a spectacular view with taste of their home country mixed with
Nepali flavor. Like I can mix Yak cheese which is available only in Nepal in Pasta to blend
Italian food with the touch of Nepali taste, also I can add ANADI RICE only found in western
part of Nepal and cook risotto with Rhododendron (commonly called Laliguras which is
national flower of Nepal)’s leaf as a garnish. These are my visions and potential encapsulated
on me from my early childhood.

Hence, returning to Nepal will open a door of possibilities and also earn me revenue while
creating a product worth of value.

Financial Arrangement

For my study arrangement and living costs, my parents are capable to support me and will
ensure I will have sufficient fund to cover my expenses during my stay and study in Australia.
My parents are happy to sponsor me for my studies. My parents have ongoing income from
their business and house rent NPR 2,072,000.00 (AUD 24,376.47) annually. They also have
enough property (Land & Building) in Chitwan, Kathmandu and Dhading. In addition, they
also have fund at NABIL BANK NRs. 3,604,945.85(AUD 42,411.12), Conversion rate of
(1AUD = RS 85) to ensure that I have enough funds available to study in Australia and enough
for my living cost. Recently they have released NRs. 1,030,498.61 for my tuition fee and
OSHC. Currently there is NRS 2,574,447.24(AUD 30,287.61) at Nabil Bank, Chitwan, Nepal.

My Understanding for my visa subclass 500:

I understand the terms and condition and my limits to this visa subclass 500 which has been
recently introduced and is in application since July 01, 2016 under simplified student visa
frame work (SSVF) for all international students who wish to study in Australia at a registered
education institute. There are some obligations of subclass visa 500. They are mentioned
below:

 I need to maintain minimum 80% of attendance in the college.

 I am allowed to work 40hrs per fortnight on part time basis.
 I need to clear 50% of subjects in each term.
 I cannot change the college for 6 months upon enrollment.
 I need to maintain health insurance until I remain in Australia.
 I must notify to college/ DIBP within 7 days if I change the address and contact details
and so on.

In summary, I am mentally prepared to follow all the visa conditions that are associated under
visa subclass 500 and I am determined to study with my all effort for securing better grades.

Final Words:
I know that Dukeis ideal and appropriate for me and have also found that the program suits my
needs and answers my requirements perfectly. I know that my goals are not mere wishes and I
am aware that the path I am choosing is not a smooth horse ride. I understand that I have to put
in painstaking hard work and compete with best in the world to achieve my goals. I am
thoroughly prepared for it. And I am in confidence that this college will help me on this.
Therefore, to secure the best qualification and build up a successful career, this is the best
option for me. I will do my best with intellectual ability, motivation and commitment to do
justice to a demanding postgraduate program.

I believe and I dare to pursue what I believe with hard work and passion. I want to serve, I want
to explore, I want to learn, I want to feel, I want to research my dream and I want to believe. As
I am the strict devotee of attitude, quality and hard work, I promise to attain the meteoric height
and glory to your college.

I declare that the particulars given above are true and correct in every detail. I understand that
incorrect or misleading statements may result in refusal of my admission and/or student visa
application. I am sure that I’ll be back to my home country after my studies to implement my
innovative ideas in the soil of my country. Eagerly, I hope for your kind regards to my desired
educational plan.I would be eagerly looking forward to hearing for positive response to my
application.

Thanking You,

Sincerely,
