Equality in the Workplace
2
A community that is too often overlooked and unheard are those who face the struggles of having a disability
daily. One facet of society that these people meet a lot of adversity is in the workplace. They are often looked over for
jobs, are discriminated against in the workplace, and also have a harder time keeping work. Fortunately there are
organizations that are trying to help. Such as the Work Activity Center, located in Salt Lake City, who focuses on
helping these people. They provide jobs, counciling, and even transportation services for those who need the help.
We believe this is a cause that needs more attention, so through our efforts we hope to raise some
awareness for the issue and the WAC. We will also be collecting donations for the WAC, to help their efforts. We
hope that by the end of this we can help break down some walls and bring a little more inclusivity into the world.
Purpose Statement
We have decided to accept donations to the WAC. Our purpose for this is to raise money and awareness for
disabled people in the workforce, teaching disabled people independent living skills, and providing disabled people
with the same opportunities in life which all other members of society are given. Our team feels that the WAC
encompasses our vision best, and would be a great organization to partner with. We plan for our audience to simply
be the general population and people within our immediate community.
We have multiple ideas for channels to spread our purpose to our audience. We will be creating a
“gofundme” donation page. We will also create another fundraiser through an online platform such as reddit or
facebook. We feel it will also be effective to create and print fliers that effectively help us to spread awareness and
raise money for our purpose. We plan to hand these fliers out within the community, such as in public meeting places,
at work, to friends, and to family members.
Audience Analysis
The target audience of our communications campaign are people who live with a disability and those who
are connected to a person with disabilities, whether through family or social connections, within the Salt Lake City
Area, and furthermore within the Taylorsville/Murray area. We will also be focusing on the Millenial age group. Utah
has the highest rate for volunteer work, with Millennials leading the way. They are also most likely to use social media
platforms to donate, which works perfectly with our plan to create a Facebook page for fundraising. Disabled people
in the workforce having an average salary of $25,400 and MIllennials also being in a lower income bracket works out
great, as our research has shown that lower income households actually donate more of their money to a cause than
higher income households.

Conclusion
By including those people with disabilities, whatever they are, we can help to strengthen that community as
a part of society. This inclusivity means that we make jobs more accable for them; being able to obtain a job, making
the workplace more accessible for their needs, and making people aware that inclusivity is something to focus on in
their work life. This will lead to more financial stability, more independence, and less psychological stresses for the
disabled community.
