综合技能强化训练(二)
(Text 1)
M: Can we travel to New York together?
W: Certainly. I’ll pick you up at 2:00 and we should arrive in New York by 5:00 if the traffic isn’t too
heavy.
(Text 2)
W: If that tooth is hurting you so much, perhaps you should see your dentist right away.
M: I don’t really want to, but I guess I don’t have much choice.
(Text 3)
M: Your new bag looks nice. How much was it?
W: I got three on sale. Buy two, get one free, so in the end they worked out at 300 dollars each.
(Text 4)
M: Miss Richardson, my daughter didn’t sleep well last night. Would you mind keeping an eye on her
today?
W: Don’t worry, Mr. Cruise. I’ll be sure to watch out for her. All the kids will be taken good care of
here.
(Text 5)
M: Hi, Alice. There’s a volleyball game in the stadium this afternoon. It sounds like it’ll be very
exciting. Would you like to go and watch it with me?
W: No. I think volleyball is boring.
M: Do you like handball?
W: Yes, I do, but I prefer table tennis to handball.
(Text 6)
W: Mark, I want to improve my French. Do you think it would be a good idea to go to a language
school?
M: Yes, I do. I went to a French summer school last year, called the Gold School of French.
W: Was it any good?
M: Yes, very good. We played a lot of games in class. I learned the French names of many things just
by playing games.
W: How many classes did you have a week?
M: Let me see. Two on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and four on Wednesday and Friday.
W: That’s not too bad. I’ll think about it.
(Text 7)
W: Good morning, Tom.
M: Good morning, Laura. You’re early. May I ask you something?
W: Sure. Go ahead.
M: You went from working full-time at the office to working a three-day week. What made you decide
to do that?
W: Well, basically, I wanted the time to do other things apart from work. I am a mother of two small
children, and I wanted more time to be with them.
M: Do you miss anything about your old job in the office?
W: Well, sometimes I feel a little bit lonely, and I miss chatting with my colleagues.
M: What do you feel is the best thing about your new choice?
W: Oh, many things, but most of all, I have more time with my children, you know.
M: Yeah, that’s great.
(Text 8)
W: Holiday Travel! What can I do for you?
M: Yes, I’d like to book a flight for the 23rd this month.
W: OK. Where do you want to go?
M: Berlin, Germany.
W: OK. Let me see what’s available. And when will you be returning?
M: Er, well, I’d like to catch a return flight on the 29th. Oh, and I’d like the cheapest seat possible.
W: OK, let me see. Hmm ...
M: Yeah?
W: Well, the ticket price is much lower if you leave one day earlier.
M: I see. How much is it for one day earlier?
W: It’s only 980 dollars.
M: All right. Then I’ll take that flight.
W: OK. That’s Flight BA7101, from Salt Lake City to New York Kennedy Airport.
Then Flight BA2701 from Kennedy Airport to Berlin.
M: And what are the departure and arrival times for each of those flights?
W: The first flight leaves Salt Lake City at 10:00 am, and arrives in New York at 16:15. Then the 2nd
flight leaves Kennedy Airport at 17:45. You’ll arrive in Berlin at 8:30 am the next day.
M: All right, thanks.
(Text 9)
M: Linda, I called you at home last night, but you were not in.
W: I was in the hospital.
M: Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that. Are you OK?
W: Oh, I’m fine. I was there because of my grandma. She fell and hurt her knee yesterday, so we took
her to the hospital.
M: Is it a serious problem?
W: No. But she has to stay in hospital for a few days.
M: Which hospital is she in?
W: Number 1 hospital. I need to take care of her for the next few days.
M: Would you like some help?
W: Sure. But don’t you need to work?
M: I have no plans for this weekend, so I’d be glad to come and help you then.
W: That would be great. I didn’t sleep well last night, so I really need to get some rest this weekend.
You are really sweet, Pam.
M: Well, that’s what friends are for. You know I’ll always be there for you. So when should I go to the
hospital this Saturday?
W: How about 9:00 am?
M: That’s OK for me.
(Text 10)
Last summer, I took my first flight from London to New York. I boarded the plane at Heathrow
Airport and, from that moment on, my life was arranged for me on the trip. First, I was directed to
my seat by the stewardess, and then when the plane was ready to take off, the other passengers and
I were told to fasten our seat belts. A few minutes after take-off, magazines and newspapers were
passed out. Because my ears hurt, I was given some gum to chew. Next, we were given instructions
on what to do in case of an emergency. We were given earphones to listen to music and told that a
movie would be shown after dinner. Before dinner, we were asked if we wanted a cocktail. An
attractive dinner was served on a tray, and it was delicious. We were permitted to have any beverage
we liked. After dinner, we were shown a new Hollywood movie. When I felt cold, I was given a
blanket, and when I felt airsick the stewardess gave me a paper bag. Everything needed for the
comfort of the passengers was taken care of. When the plane landed, I was almost sorry to get off and
have to start doing things for myself again.
