Branch: BE CSE Section/Group 5 C
Semester: 4 Date of Performance:28.03.2021
Subject Name: Computer Networks Lab
Subject Code: CSP 274

1. Aim/Overview of the practical:

Simulate working of various devices using when they are attached in a Mesh Topology. Elaborate the Pros and
Cons of using Mesh Topology.

2. Task to be done:
Implement network topology Mesh with the help of packet tracer.

3. Apparatus/Simulator used (For applied/experimental sciences/materials based labs):

Cisco Packet Tracer

H/W Requirement :-

•Processor – Any suitable Processor e.g. Celeron

•Main Memory - 128 MB RAM

•Hard Disk – minimum 20 GB IDE Hard Disk

•Removable Drives–1.44 MB Floppy Disk Drive

–52X IDE CD-ROM Drive

•PS/2 HCL Keyboard and Mouse

4. Steps

1. Insert a few Switches and attach connect them to one another so that they are all connected to every
other device.
2. Attach PCs to switches and assign them IP adresses.
3. Drop Simple PDU from one device to another .
4. Go to simulation mode and click Auto/Capture/Play.
5. Analyze how data is sent from one PC to another when multiple paths are available to forward data.

5. Implement of Mesh Topology in Cisco Packet Tracer:

6. Advantages of Mesh Topology:

1. Failure during a single device won’t break the network.

2. There is no traffic problem as there is a dedicated point to point links for every computer.
3. Fault identification is straightforward.
4. This topology provides multiple paths to succeed in the destination and tons of
redundancy.
5. It provides high privacy and security.
6. Data transmission is more consistent because failure doesn’t disrupt its processes.
7. Adding new devices won’t disrupt data transmissions.
8. This topology has robust features to beat any situation.
9. A mesh doesn’t have a centralized authority.

7. Disadvantages of Mesh Topology:

1. It’s costly as compared to the opposite network topologies i.e. star, bus, point to point
topology.
2. Installation is extremely difficult in the mesh.
3. Power requirement is higher as all the nodes will need to remain active all the time and
share the load.
4. Complex process.
5. The cost to implement mesh is above other selections.
6. There is a high risk of redundant connections.
7. Each node requires a further utility cost to think about.
8. Maintenance needs are challenging with a mesh.

Result:
Mesh Topology has been successfully implemented and messages are successfully delivered at
desire location.
