Question 4)
a)
Firstly , we need to take enthalpy values for sperator and reservoir conditions
seperately relative to T=217 o C and 15 barg.
When T=217 o C : hf = 929.81 J/g and hs=2801.2 J/g
When P=15 bar : hf = 847.94 J/g and hs=2792.6 J/g
And we know that steam quality in seperator is x s=0.10, so we can calculate
fluid enthalpy (hf) by using below equation :
hf −hw
x ssep =
hs −hw
J
h f =x s sep × ( h s−hw ) + hw =0.1 × ( 2792.6−847.94 )+ 847.94=1042
g

And then, we will use same equation to find steam quality at reservoir
condition:
h f −h w 1042−929.81
xs = = =0.059 ×100 %=5.9 %
res
h s−h w 2801.2−929.81

We found that 5.9 % of reservoir fluid is steam and 94.1 % is water. As we

know total flow rate is 250 kg/s, we can calculate flow rate for steam and water
seperately.
250∗5.9 kg
q steam = =14.75
100 s
94.1 kg
q water =250× =235.25
100 s

Now we can produced energy by multiplying flow rate values with enthalpy
values :
total produced energy=produced energy with steam+ produced energy with water
1000 g J 1000 g
¿ q steam × hsteam + qwater × hwater =14.75 × 2801.2 +235.25 × × 929.81=41.32 M W t +218.74 M W t =
s g s

b) Steam quality in seperator is given as x s=0.10 . So flow rate of steam is

simply :
kg
q steam =250∗0.10=25
s

To find amount of energy flowing to turbine we need to simply multiply flow

rate of steam with steam enthalpy value :
1000 g J
energy flowing ¿ turbine=25 ∗2792.6 =69.82 M W t
s g

c) In order to find the percentage of energy produced and entering into turbine :
¿ 69.82
energy flowing ¿ turbine = =0.27
energy produced 260.06

27 % of produced energy were coming from steam and rest were coming ftom
fluid.
d)
¿ 69.82
Energy of steam flowing ¿ turbine = =6.4
Annual Avarage power 10.8

¿ 260.06
Total energy ¿ reservoir = =24.08
Annual Avarage power 10.8

Question 2)
The flowrate of geofluid is 1000 ton/hr=277.7 kg/s
So using the graph :

From the graph we can clearly see that, Specific Power Output is 75kW/kg/s
So we can calculate electricity generation output :
75 kW kg
Electricity GenerationOutput = ∗278 =20850 kWe=20.8 MWe

b) Fraction of heat of water in total heat of reservoir considering reservoir is

consist of water and rock.
H w =ϕ c w ρ w V ( T −20 )=0.05∗4.18∗ρ w∗18∗109∗195=7 .33 ρw 101 1 kJ

H r =( 1−ϕ ) c r ρr V ( T −20 )=0.95∗1∗2.65∗ρw∗18∗109∗195=8 .83 ρw 10 12 kJ

Heat ∈water 7 .33∗101 1 ρw

= =0.076=7.6 %
heat∈total 7.33∗1011 ρw +8.83 ρ w 1012

c) Reservoir heat content for Tref =20 oC (assumption : ρw =997 kg /m3 ¿

d)
H t =H w + H r=7.33∗1011∗997+ 8.83∗1012∗997=9.53∗101 5 kJ

e) Production time
Firstly we need to find mass :
Q 7 .3∗101 4 kJ
m= = =8.91∗1011 kg
cp∆T kJ
4.2 ∗195
kg
If we divide mass with flow rate we can find production time :
8. 91∗1011 kg
Production time= =3.48∗109 sec ¿ 113 year
