1. At the end of Day 6, when all LINKS lesson would have been completed, the whole
group will choose two lesson plans that will be demonstrated on Day 7.
The groups whose lessons will not be used in the demo teaching will be distributed
between the two groups whose lessons will be demonstrated.
2. Each demo group will decide how many and who will teach their lesson. 1-2 persons
may be assigned to demo a section of the LINKS lesson, depending on the length of
the section (e.g., two teachers can demo the Before Reading portion; two teachers
can demo the Explicit Teaching portion, etc.)
Members who will be teaching will help in preparing the instructional materials such
as pictures, worksheets, and teaching charts. They will also prepare the room for the
demo (e.g., arranging chairs for participants)
3. During each demo teaching, half of those who are not involved in the demo will act as
the students. The other half who will be observing the lesson will be provided with
an Observation Guide which they will use to take down notes about the teaching.
These groups will switch roles for the second demo.
4. After each demo, there will be a post-demonstration conference with a facilitator and
the whole group. The discussion and feedback will center around the items in the
Observation Guide.
5. Each demo teaching will be for 1.5 hours. Post-demonstration conference will be for
30 minutes.
DIRECTIONS: Observe closely the teaching of the LINKS lesson. Under the first column, write key words
and phrases that capture what the teacher is doing, e.g., key steps, questions and explanations, use of an
instructional material, as well as responses of students. Under the second column, write your reactions,
questions that come to mind, and initial thoughts on what you think might improve any aspect of the
teaching. Use the back of the sheet if you need more space to write on.
