ZOOLAB MAMMALS: RABBIT ■ Jejunum (coiled)

(Digestive, Respiratory, Urogenital) ■ Ileum (slightly straight)

● CECUM
○ Junction of small and large intestines
DIGESTIVE AND UROGENITAL
● APPENDIX
MOUTH ● LARGE INTESTINES OR COLON
● Cut the mouth on both sides to reveal the oral cavity ○ Contains 3 parts:
● Teeth are basically incisors; not canines because they are herbivores; they feed ■ Ascending colon
on grass and vegetables ■ Transverse colon
● Dorsal Side of Mouth: hard palate ■ Descending colon
● Ventral Side of Mouth: tongue… suspended to the ventral wall by the lingual ● ANUS (not cloaca!! Because there’s a separate opening for the urogenital system)
frenulum
SPLEEN (sometimes excluded) - you need to deflect the liver and stomach; it is elongated
● Lips – connected to the mid-ventral line by the labial frenulum
and flattened in rabbits; it is much larger in other mammals such as cats and pigs
● Gingiva – gums
● Larynx – much lower side
● KIDNEY
○ What muscles you can see?
○ Right kidney is position higher than the left kidney.
■ Thyrohyoid
● URETER
■ Sternothyroid
● URINARY BLADDER
○ Thyroid cartilage of the larynx
● PENIS (male)
■ 1 Opening of larynx leads to esophagus
● URETHRA (male)
■ Other side leads to trachea
○ Epiglottis – a mammalian characteristic
MALE REPRODUCTIVE ORGAN
■ One leads to esophagus
● PENIS
■ Other leads to larynx
○ Testis
■ Cut epiglottis to see the vocal cords
○ Glans Penis
● Diaphragm
○ Prepuce
○ Look at the ventral side
■ in humans, this is the one that is cut during circumcision
○ Separates the pleural cavity from the peritoneal cavity and the pericardial
■ Like a two-fold flap
cavity
→ In the lower forms, the testis are somewhat near the middle, but in MAMMALS… then
ABDOMINAL PART (INTERNAL)
they migrate downward with the SPERMATIC CORD (this is like a wobbly appearance at
● ESOPHAGUS
the sides of the testes).
○ Passageway of the food to the inside
→ Testis descend into the scrotal sac (SCROTUM)
● STOMACH
→ Testis produce the sperm and goes up… store it in SEMINAL VESICLE
○ Fundus - the cardiac end
○ Pylorus - the pyloric end
● SMALL INTESTINES
○ Pancreas (lies within the curves of small intestines)
○ Contains 3 parts:
■ Duodenum
CIRCULATORY RESPIRATORY

HEART 1. LARYNX
● Enclosed in ribs or rib cage 2. TRACHEA
● You need to cut open the pericardial sac to reveal the heart itself 3. FORKS INTO 2 TO BECOME THE BRONCHI
● NO SINUS VENOSUS IN MAMMALS 4. LEADS TO THE RIGHT AND LEFT LUNG (small in appearance)
● Easy to identify right and left:
○ RIGHT - soft LUNGS
○ LEFT - more thicker and muscular as it pumps blood at higher pressure ● Three-lobed:
towards different parts of the body ○ Anterior lobe
● 4 Chambers: ○ Middle lobe
○ Right atrium ○ Posterior lobe
○ Right ventricle
○ Left atrium → In the CAT, the heart is tilted to the left, so that gives a bigger space for the right lung
○ Left ventricle → The posterior lobe of the right lung in the CAT is divided into 2 lobules:
● LEFT SUBCLAVIAN 1. Lateral lobule
○ Bigger than the right subclavian 2. Medial lobule
○ Goes directly to the left from the aortic arches
● POSTCAVAL VEIN OR INFERIOR VENA CAVA
○ One only
○ Goes directly to the right atrium (no sinus venosus)
○ Connected going to the legs
● 2 PRECAVAL VEINS OR 2 SUPERIOR VENA CAVA
○ One from left
○ One from right
