 Maira Gissele Dominguez:

Tools enabling students to create artifacts representing what they are learning.

In this part of the text it was explained how virtual tools can improve learning skills. It explained
how there are some tools that only need internet connection to make a presentation or a video. In
the case of video production, the author expose how using just a Flip camera or the laptop’s
camera and moviemaker software students and teachers can make something fun from a very
usual topic. Other interesting thing about video production was the time. We want our students to
learn and practice the concepts we are teaching, not to spend too much time on editing, so, those
tools are excellent to help our students express their own ideas in a fun and fast way. Newsmaker
and Camtasia were some of the tools the author referenced.
Other tool to use in our classroom is Podcasting. “This tool uses audio production”. Using these
tools, we can ask our students to work at home with their parents and see how they are
developing activities. These tools can help students practicing reading and comprehension.

The last tools the author talked about in this part of the text was web-based multimedia tools.
These tools allow student create presentations like power point and demonstrate what they
learned in an interactive way. Using these kind of tools students can express ideas by pictures,
objects, text and share their work on a fun way. Some of them are Voicethread, Mixbook,
Glogster and Picnik; some of them also use multimedia like images, music, videos and
hyperlinks.
