Blended Learning Lesson Plan

Lesson Title: Motion of the Marbles

Objectives:
Students will be able to recognize why the strength of the push or pull of an object affects it.
Students will be able to identify how the speed of an object is changed based upon its mass.
State Standards: 3-5.3. Explain how the motion of an object is affected by the strength of a
push or pull and the mass of the object.

Context: I am teaching this lesson so that my students can understand what affects the motion of
an object and how it affects it. Objects move the way that they do for a reason, my students
should understand that. Before this lesson, they must understand the previous lesson on the
comparison of objects in terms of speed and direction. After this lesson, we will move to the next
lesson that will teach them an understanding of how gravity affects an object in motion. In
preparation of the next lesson, I will teach my students to pay attention to how the object stays in
contact with the ramp used in the hands-on activity.
Data: Students will be grouped with their tablemates that I strategically placed with each other
based upon things like the type of learners they are. Data will be collected from this lesson from
my observation of if the similar learners work better together or not. If not, then I will know to
try to change it for the next group activity to include different types of learners within each
group.
Materials: List all materials used (i.e. websites, apps, pencils, iPads, computers, worksheets,
diagrams, textbooks, etc.)
Introduction: Smart board, video

Teacher Directed: ramp, weighted marbles, string attachments
Collaborative: ramp, weighted marbles, string attachments

Independent Digital: IPads, website game

Cool, Interactive Forces and Motion Games for Kids to Play (gamequarium.com)

Closure: smartboard, IPads, kahoot game

Procedures:
Introduction (15 minutes): I will explain how an objects motion is dependent upon its
mass and the push and pull. Then I will play the video.

Teacher Directed (10 minutes): I will show different marbles going down my ramp, with
different string attachments along with them,

Collaborative (20 minutes): Students will work with their groups to observe what they
can about the motion of the marbles and the differences between each.

Independent Digital (10 minutes): Students will play the motion games individually that
way they can grasp the understanding more, and if they have questions still then I can
individually help them.

Closure (10 minutes): We will play the kahoot and the top 3 winners will receive an
extra 5 points on the unit test.
