Rules for singular and plural

Rules Example

Rule 1 Add ‘S’ to form the plurals of most nouns. duck -> ducks

Rule 2 bus -> buses


When nouns end with s, sh, ch, ss or x bush -> bushes
punch -> punches
We add ‘es’ to make plurals boss -> bosses
box -> boxes

Rule 3 For nouns that end in ‘y’ with a consonant before the ‘y’, lady -> ladies
Change ‘y’ to ‘i’ and add ‘es’

Rule 4 For nouns that end in ‘y’ with a vowel before the ‘y’, key -> keys
Just add ‘s’

Rule 5 For nouns that end in ‘f’ or ‘fe’ , thief -> thieves
We drop the ‘f’ or ‘fe’ and add ‘ves’ life -> lives

Rule 6 Identical twins - “The same” deer -> deer
