- The non standard units to measure the capacity of a liquid are jug, tumbler, bowl, etc.
- The standard units to measure liquid are ​Litres​ and ​Millilitres.

1 litre = 1000 millilitres

Examples : Estimate the standard unit to measure liquid.


1. The capacity of a swimming pool is measured in litres.
2. The capacity of a cough syrup bottle is measured in millilitres.
3. The capacity of a shampoo bottle is measured in millilitres.
4. The capacity of an oil tank is measured in litres.

- The capacity of the following container is 500 ml and volume is 400 ml.

- The capacity of the following container is 1 litre.

- The capacity of this glass is 250 ml

Q. How many times do we have to pour milk with a glass of 250 ml into a 1 litre jar.
Ans: 250 ml + 250 ml + 250 ml + 250 ml = 1000 ml = 1 litre.
Therefore, we have to pour four times.

Q. Pot A holds 20 glassfulls of water. Pot B holds half of water as Pot A. How many glasses of
water are needed to fill Pot B.
Ans : Number of glasses to fill Pot A = 20
Number of glasses in Pot B = Half of Pot A
Half of 20 = 10 + 10
Therefore,10 glasses of water are needed to fill Pot B.
