● Frequency ​means the number of times a particular data occurs.
● Frequency table ​is used to represent the data as a table.

Tally marks:
Using tally marks is another way of representing the given information.
A tally mark is a straight line, where:

=1 ; =2 ; = 3 and =4

The fifth tally mark is a slanting line which crosses so, = 5

1. Riya gathered information about the favourite story of each child in her building.
She then represented the information as tally marks.

children like it ?
Ans: Dosa is liked by more children, 10 more children like dosa than idli.

Chart is where information is represented using symbols.

3. Represent the data given below about the number of vehicles that passed by
Deepak’s house each day as a chart.

Ans: Motorbike passes by Deepak’s house the most number of times.

3) Which vehicles pass by Deepak’s house the least?


Ans: Bus passes by Deepak’s house the least number of times.

4) What is the difference between the number of cars and trucks which pass by Deepak’s
house?
Ans: Number of cars = 5
Number of trucks = 3
Difference between number of cars and trucks = 5 - 3
=2

5) How many bicycles pass by Deepak’s house each day?


Ans: ​ ​4 bicycles pass by Deepak’s house everyday.

6) Find out the total number of vehicles passing by Deepak’s house in a day
Ans: A total of 22 vehicles pass by Deepak’s house in a day.
