Job Shadow Essay (Type below):

I chose to do a job shadow on a Social worker because I am interested in helping people
with their problems and this seemed like a good fit for that. I completed a virtual job shadow on
the U.S bureau of Labor Statistics website.

Social workers help people in various ways and there are various different types of social
workers. The type of social worker that I was interested in was Clinical social workers. They
provide individual, group, family, and couples therapy; they work with clients to develop
strategies to change behavior or cope with difficult situations; and they refer clients to other
resources or services, such as support groups or other mental health professionals. Clinical
social workers can develop treatment plans with the client, doctors, and other healthcare
professionals and may adjust the treatment plan if necessary based on their client’s progress.

I learned a great deal about what the work of a social worker is and what goes into
becoming a social worker. Education wise clinical social workers must have a master’s degree
and 2 years of experience in a supervised clinical setting after they’ve completed their degree.
Clinical social workers must also be licensed by their state. I also learned you need good
communication skills and be able to empathise with people in difficult situations. I was also
happy to learn the job outlook for this career is good and they make a decent salary compared
to other jobs.

After completing this Job shadow I have decided to continue looking into this career as a
possibility. Helping people gives me satisfaction and happiness and that’s what this job is all
about. Next year I plan to take courses that deal with social work in order to further explore my
interest in this career.
