The pilot operated valve is used in circuits for emergency relief so the system doesn’t overpressure, and
damage anything. The relief valve is set at a certain psi so once that pressure is reached instead of
building up pressure the relief valve will then open dumping the oil through to the tank.

Adjustable knob: where you can adjustable and set the psi that you want in the relief valve
Stem to knob: attached to know to adjust psi
Adjustable spring: it is what the knob pushes the spring creating the pressure the oil goes
through
Tank port: where the oil goes through back to tank
Inlet port: where oil goes in the relief valve from pump
Y port: where oil leaves the relief valve
Main spool: It increases the pressure of the oil where it goes through a skinny tube
Orifice: a restricted passageway to measure the amount of oil going through
Spring: it is what the knob is setting, if the spring gets squeezed the higher the psi that oil must
be able to get through
Vent: when the predetermined pressure is reached, the valve will open to vent
Seat: its what the spring pushes the pilot poppet opening the relief valve
Pilot poppet: is attached to the spring and pushes to the seat when the predetermined pressure
is reached
Drain: where any excess oil will go through back to tank
The pilot operated relief valve protects your system from getting damaged in anyway, the difference
with the pilot operated valves that it uses the system pressure to seal the valve rather than a spring to
hold a disc or piston. The relief valve is easy and low maintence and is why companies and most in
industry prefer to use the pilot operated than the direct acting relief valve
