Pilot Operated Relief valve

A pilot operate relief valve is a component that reduces pressure at the PSI (Pounds per
square inch) setting. The PSI setting is set by the disrupter/manufacture* depending on where it
is purchased. This valve is two relief valves stacked together. The valve is used to protect the
pump*. The valve also allows you to use the vent port (see diagram) to control the oil in
different ways. Oil goes into a pressure port through the internal pilot and pushes on the dart
until the spring is forced back. The oil will go into the pilot spring chamber which will then go
into the main spring chamber. Pressure then evens out and pushes the spool up and the oil
goes out the drain.

Notes*
1. Distributor/manufacture: Fluid power companies that make/sell components
2. Pump: a hydraulic component that creates flow.
1. Dart: blocks oil from going into the pilot chamber.
2. Drain plug: Blocked drain port, can release oil from pilot chamber.
3. Retaining gland: Holds in screw and oil in the valve.
4. Screw: Tightens spring tension.
5. Screw adjustment: Helps tighten spring and creates the seal for the valve.
6. Dart seat: Where dart is seated off the edge of the spring.
7. Vent Plug: can be used to control other relief valve.
8. Guide: Keeps spool and spring in place.
9. Spring: Creates tension in main chamber by supplying a slight mechanical advantage.
10. Pilot spring: Creates tension in pilot chamber.
11. Inlet: Port where pressured oil goes in.
12. Outlet: Port where low pressure oil goes out.
13. Stabilizing: Help keeps spool in place.
14. Body: Keeps all components in place.
15. Internal drain: an escape for oil.
16. High pressure port: The main oil entrance.
17. Main spool: Main block to let oil out.
18. Pilot fixed orifice: small inlet into pilot chamber.

A pilot operate relief valve is a component that reduces pressure at setting the screw sets.
The setting is set by the distributor/manufacture depending on where it is purchased, but it can
be set by the user. This valve is two relief valves stacked together to create a pilot operated
valve. The valve is used to protect the pump*. The valve also allows you to use the vent port
(see diagram) to control the oil in different ways.
