Section 2 Presentation of the ALSPA HMI Maintenance Function

2.1 Presentation

The ALSPA HMI Maintenance function is made-up of two parts:

The Maintenance Server which collects, elaborates and distributes the system
status;
The Maintenance Viewer which presents the status to the operator.

2.2 Architecture

2.3 Maintenance Server

The Maintenance Server has a link to the elementary controller faults server
(SAAM), which allows displaying the Fault Tables of the Controller and the list of
software component versions installed on the stations.
The Maintenance Server also provides configuration data relative to each
component of the system.
In a configuration comprising several ALSPA HMI systems linked on the same
Ethernet Enterprise Bus network, the Maintenance Server can be used to observe
the global and detailed operating modes of all the ALSPA HMI systems involved as
well as any connected devices from a single station.
The Maintenance Server is unavailable if the Ethernet Enterprise Bus of the ALSPA
HMI RTDS station (CIS) is disconnected.

Maintenance Server & Viewer - Reference Manual 8/32
2.4 Maintenance Viewer

The Maintenance Viewer provides a synthesized view of the component states and
faults of the ALSPA Series 6 control system.
The Maintenance Viewer is accessible from the System Structure Explorer,
Functional Structure, Variable List and Alarm List of the operator interface on any
ALSPA HMI station connected to the ALSPA Series 6 system.
From a global structure mimic, each component of the ALSPA Series 6 system can
be searched down to detailed mimics showing individual elements. Each element
can also be accessed directly from the system structure tree.
All malfunctions present at the time of consultation are available. Event histories and
chronologies are supplied to the ALSPA HMI Operation functions such as Historian.
Color-coded criticality levels are implemented to assist in the appraisal of the degree
of urgency associated with the correction of the malfunction.
The same synthesized data is also supplied by means of mimics produced
automatically and represented using Silverlight technology. There are three types of
mimics:

the first group of views shows the details of the control room and of the
controllers,
the second group shows the details at the automation cell level,
the third group gives details for the field networks.
The Maintenance Viewer allows the navigation between the mimic representation
and the synthesized arrays, and supplies data on the different components in the
system as the mouse cursor moves over them.
The Maintenance Viewer is unavailable on an ALSPA HMI Operator Station if the
Ethernet Enterprise Bus of this station is disconnected.
The users of the ALSPA HMI Maintenance Viewer are the operators and
maintenance engineers of the plant.

The maintenance server acts as a control panel used to monitor the system that
operates on 4 sub-systems:

ALSPA HMI sub-system composed of the CIS (RTDS Server) and CVS (Operator
station) elements (A),
Ethernet Process Bus sub-system (S8000) (B),
Cell sub-system composed of cell controller and field device elements (C).
Field network sub-system comprising the equipment connected to a field network
(D).

When an element composing the system fails, the fault impacts all the higher levels
in the system. The source of the failure can be identified by searching the tree down
to the level of the fault.

Each element of a sub-system is involved in producing the synthesized data

presented at the level of that sub-system.
In addition, the server has a link with the elementary controller faults and with the
SAAM. The server also provides configuration data relative to each element in the
system.

3.7 Description of the Dynamic Variables

Each of the dynamic variables is classified according to 5 fault levels. The default
colors associated to these levels correspond to the ones defined for the degrees of
urgency in the Controcad color palette (cf. § 4.1.1).

Fault Default Meaning Description

Level Color Code
Level 1 Blue OK Status OK with the element operating
normally.
Level 2 Green Warning Status OK, but the element is
operating in an alternative mode
conditioned by a user action (Test
Mode for ALSPA HMI, forced value on
a device), or in a mode requiring user
action (fault acknowledgement).
Level 3 Yellow Minor Fault Non-blocking fault; fault not directly
affecting the operation of the element
(element redundancy failure, e.g.
stand-by CIS).
Level 4 Pink Major Fault Blocking fault; loss of a part of the
element or impaired element
functionality.
Level 5 Red Critical Fault Critical fault; element status data is
unobtainable, element is inaccessible
or total loss of functionality.

When you modify the color of a fault level in the Controcad color palette,
the color is not updated accordingly in the Maintenance Viewer. A manual
modification is necessary (cf. § 4.1).

3.8 Description of the Operating Modes

3.8.1 General Operating Modes

The Operating Mode box provides an overview of the status of the current element:

The operating mode and the associated operational level show whether the element
is present and is functioning normally. For certain elements, it can be used to
indicate in which mode the element is running.
The associated operational level is in principle conditioned by the operating mode
but can also be affected (negatively) by the system view rules outlined above.
The general operating modes and operational levels used are given below:
Operating Mode Operational Description
Level
Operational Level 1 Indicates that the element is running, without
specifying any particular operating mode.
Not Accessible Level 5 Indicates that the element is not accessible
(powered off, inaccessible via network, etc.).
For CIS or CVS stations, this mode indicates
that the real time application is stopped
(blocking message or exception).
Stopped Level 5 The element is stopped, but is accessible. For
an ALSPA HMI, this mode is also the fallback
mode that replaces Unavailable.
Stopping Level 5 The element is in the process of stopping.
Uninitialized Level 3 The element (often a function) has not yet
been started.
Initializing Level 3 The element (often a function) is being
initialized.
Fault Level 5 The element is considered to present a fatal
fault. This mode applies especially to functions
or network interfaces.
Not Monitored Level 1 The device concerned produces no status
data allowing an operating mode to be
calculated.
Unavailable Level 5 Mode of the element cannot be acquired by
the maintenance server. This is the fallback
value when no information can be obtained on
the element, e.g. during the start-up phase.
This value also appears in certain transient
phases in which the maintenance server is
itself unable to acquire the variables due to a
temporary overload of the processor.

More precise operating modes can be used to indicate the mode in which the
element is running:
Operating Mode Operational Running Mode of Element
Level
Master Operational Level 1 Specifies that a redundant element is Master
and operational.
Stand-By Operational Level 1 Specifies that a redundant element is
operational, but operating in Standby mode.
Standalone Level 3 Specifies that a single element is
Operational operational.
Starting Level 3 Specifies that a non-redundant element is in
the start-up phase.
Master Starting Level 3 Specifies that a redundant element is Master,
but in start-up phase.
Stand-By Starting Level 3 Specifies that a redundant element is in
start-up phase, but in Standby mode;
StandaloneStarting Level 3 Specifies that a single element is in the start-
up phase.

In addition to the modes listed above, specific operational modes linked to the
nature of the element itself can also be displayed.

3.8.2 Operating Modes of ALSPA HMI Multi Stations (C30)

The operating modes of ALSPA HMI Multi Stations (C30) are as given below.
Operating Mode Level Description
Dual Server Operational Level 1 Both CIS devices are operational.
Test Mode Shared Level 2 Both CIS devices are operational,
Operational but operating in Shared Test Mode.
Single Server Level 3 Only one of the CIS devices is
Operational operational.
Dual Server Inserting Level 3 One CIS is operational and the
second is being inserted.

4.1.2 Procedure

To modify a fault level color in the Maintenance Viewer in accordance with the color
chosen in Controcad color palette, perform the following steps:
On the SIC station, under “exe” account:
 Copy the file “pywa_INSERT_FAULT_LEVELS.sql” located in
"F:\P320\CONFDATA\exe\oc” folder and paste it to some other location to work in
it.
 In your working copy, modify the color code of your choice by converting the
Controcad color decimal value in hexadecimal value.
 Save the modification(s).
 Copy the customized file and paste it to "F:\P320\CONFDATA\exe\oc”.
This file replaces the default file on the SIC station.

On the CIS stations, under “exe” account:

 Launch the “Deliver \ Install” of the PMWS function.

If you reinstall or upgrade the functions, you will need to repeat this
procedure.
