Comprehensive Assignment (Final)
Spring Semester 2021
Course: MAT130 (Sec - 16)
Full Marks: 30 Deadline: 20.05.2021 (Thursday 10:00 PM)

Please
observe the following guidelines for the assignment that you turn in to be graded.
➢ Answer the following questions with honesty and integrity.

➢ You may prepare it by handwriting, for submission please use pdf only.

➢ Please write your answers neatly on clear white paper and scan the answers using your phone
and make them a one pdf file.

➢ Submit the answer (to the google classroom not email) soon once you complete it.

➢ You should not share your solutions with others. It may go through a “plagiarism test” on your
assignment, significant similarity (copying from others) would severely reduce marks from both.

➢ Early submission is strongly encouraged.

1. (a) Find the area of the surface generated by revolving the curve [3]
𝑦 = 2𝑥 3 + 4, 0 ≤ 𝑦 ≤ 4 about the x-axis.
(b) Find the volume of the solid that results when the region enclosed by 𝑥 = [3]
𝑦 2 and 𝑦 = 𝑥 is revolved about the line 𝑦 = −0.5.
2. (a) Find the volume of the solid that results when the region enclosed by the [3]
curves 𝑦 = √9 − 2𝑥 2 is revolved about the x-axis.

(b) Find the total area enclosed between 𝑦 = 𝑥 3 and 𝑦 = 𝑥 over the interval [3]
[−1, 3].

3. (a) Sketch the curve 𝑥 = 3 − 2 cos 𝑡, 𝑦 = 1 − 2 sin 𝑡 (0 ≤ 𝑡 ≤ 2𝜋) by eliminating [3]

the parameter, and indicate the direction of increasing 𝑡.

(b) Find the arc length of the entire cardioid 𝑟 = 5(1 + cos 𝜃). [3]

4. (a) √64±(𝑥+5)2 [3]

Graph 𝑦 = 4 ± , and label the vertices, foci, and asymptotes.
2

(b) Find an equation for the parabola that has axis 𝑥 = −1 and passes [3]
through the points (4, 5) and (0, −7). Sketch the parabola and identify the
directrix.

5. (a) Determine the area of the region inside the cardioid 𝑟 = 2 − 2 cos 𝜃 and to [3]
3
the right of the line 𝑟 cos 𝜃 = .
2
(b) Sketch the graph of 𝑟 = 2 [3]
in polar coordinates. Identify its focus
1+2 cos 𝜃
and vertex.
