1) How did you hear about this job?
I saw the job posted on a website, and the position seemed interesting so I wanted to learn more
from this company.

2) What do you know about our company?

From what I read, your company is one of the leading oil producers in the world. The
production includes domestic production of crude oil, all other petroleum liquids, biofuels, and
refinery processing gain. With that said, being here working in this company will be a great
opportunity as a chemist.

3) Why do you want to work here?

I read on the job description that you’re looking for someone with experience in the field of
chemistry. I’ve done that for 3 years and can immediately help you formulate synthetic oils in the
production.

4) Why are you applying for this position? (What interest you about this position?)

I have applied for the production chemist position you have advertised on your website. I am
interested in this position because I believe my education and experience are an ideal match. I
have a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Santo Tomas, Philippines, and 3
years of experience dedicated to this field.

5) Tell me about yourself.

I’ve spent my entire career in a laboratory working as a research assistant from my research
adviser after graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in 2022. This lead to widening my
experiences as a chemist, having an extensive background in NMR, FTIR, and AAS, developed
new techniques for gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, and capillary electrophoresis,
and Investigated different phenomena by genome editing and altering the DNA sequence.

6) What are you passionate about?

One area that I’m passionate about is self-development and self-improvement in my personal
life. I’m always looking to challenge myself and learn new things. That’s one reason I enjoy

working in a laboratory. The work may be difficult and intricate at times, but all you have to
have is determination and patience.

7) What are your strengths?

My meticulous attention to detail and accuracy, excellent analytical skills, flexibility, and being
a team player coupled with the ability to learn new techniques and be able to work with minimal
supervision will be beneficial to the team.

8) What are your weaknesses?

I’m not particularly strong in social media marketing. I focused solely on my career as a
chemist.

9) Tell me how you dealt with a tough challenge. (How do you deal with pressure?)

In my last job, our laboratory for research had an unexpected deadline, and our research
adviser was out for the day. Our client handed us their milk sample and investigated, to check if
it has traces of melamine, but we were far behind schedule. I took the lead on the project,
delegated tasks to the other team members in a way that I thought would utilize everyone’s
strengths best. And then, I re-organized my tasks so I could dedicate my entire day to
contributing to this project as well. The project was a success, and we delivered the work on-
time to our client.

10) Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I am not sure which path will make sense to pursue, but I know my goal right now is to build a
strong foundation and gain valuable experience so that I’ll have a successful future in this
company.

11) Why are you the best person for the job? (Why should we hire you?)

Since beginning my career, I’ve wanted to work for a larger organization in this industry, and I
know you’re one of the leaders in this field. Additionally, I believe that your company will
holistically help me grow as an individual.
