Introduction
What is more effective between online learning or face to face type of learning? In 2020, 41% of
students indicated the quality of their online college-level learning experience was better that
college-level classroom instruction, compared to 15% who felt it was no as good. In this
pandemic that We are facing right now we are forced to study in a way that most of the students
are not familiar. In this research We will tell you the impact and the effectiveness of this kind of
learning which is online and modular learning. Most of the people or students will probably say
that face-to-face learning is more effective since you’ll get to learn things personally and also
you’ll get to talk with your friends personally and not virtually.”Students are not required to buy
computers or attend online classes since the country is adopting a blended form of learning amid
the coronavirus pandemic” (DepEd).This kind of learning may not be effective for those who
have financial problems but modular learning are presented for those who have that kind of
problem.

We live in a period where things are too upgraded. Cellphones are in nearly every pocket, Laptop
are invented so that you can carry everywhere, basically new technologies that makes education
more accessible and affordable many student, and for those who would have been unable to
pursue higher education in traditional face-to-face learning ( Bianco & Carr-Chellman,2002) One
of the biggest impact of that online class has on society is social impact. When taking an online
class, you are in you comfort place which is home, no need to wake up early so that you can get
ready, things are just one click away. This also entails that you can literally stay at home and end
your school year without going to the classroom, spending money on break time, you don’t need
to meet your teacher face to face even you schoolmates. Your social aspects becomes null
(invalid, empty or blank). A point that Hickey brings up the requirement if self-discipline. “The
problem is the time management and organization skills necessary to stay on top of your work,
allot an appropriate time to complete each task and balance your coursework against other
priorities in your life” (Ryan Hickey).

There are seven benefits of online learning that affects the students. Online leaning added
Flexibility and Self-Paced Learning to the students where the students were able to know the
importance of time management and personal pace which will help the students to be
independent and to be ready in their future. It also give the students a freedom to do their
activities and assignments in their most convenient and productive time that helps them to avoid
procrastinating in doing things that they have to do. As what we said earlier, online class helps
the students to have Better Time Management that helps them to improve their study habits. It
also helps the students to Demonstrated Self-Motivation in their own and personal needs. It also
help the students to Improve their Virtual Communication and Collaboration which helps the
students to adapt the new normal strategy of socializing nowadays. It also helps the students to
have a Broader and Global Perspective which improves the students’ point of view that will help
them to improve their knowledge which they can use for their future. It also give them a Refined
Critical-Thinking Skills that also give them knowledge and gain more perspective thoughts that
they cause when they are encountering a debate or reporting. And lastly, it also helps them to
have a New Technical Skills that can help them develop their skills in the modern technology
and in the internet websites.

There are also at least five advantages of online learning. First, the students can learn whatever
they want. They can learn and search everything now using internet website that helps them to
improve their knowledge. They are able to take the program that they want to take and suitable
for them. Second, they can have comfort. The students will no longer think of being late and
forget about attending classes for hours, and sitting in an uncomfortable chair which cause a
suffering from back pain at the end of the day. They will not be taking a physical class because
all of their lectures and activities are posted online. Third, self-paced learning that helps the
student to be more productive and to be independent. Fourth, Lower cost. The students will no
longer pay for bus and all of the commuting vehicles and also they will be no longer buy their
lunch meal and snacks during the class hours. That’s why the students can save up money and
also it can help their parents to lesser their expenses. Fifth, The students have Accessibility of
Time and Place. The students can now attend their class in any location of their choice. And also
the lectures and discussions are now recorded that’s why the students are able to watch and listen
to it in their most convenient time. But there are also some disadvantages of online learning
which the students experienced some technology issues and inability to focus on screens but
thanks to the modern technology that helps the students to follow and go back to watch and listen
their recorded lectures and discussions.
Background of the Story
Our research is about comparing the effective of online learning and face to face learning which
is also known as the traditional learning. Because of the pandemic, all the schools in the
Philippines forced to change the traditional learning and adopt to the modular and online
learning to avoid the students to have direct contact on each other to avoid the transmission of
the virus Covid-19. The things that we wrote here consist of the benefits, the advantages and the
disadvantages of the online learning that affects the students. As like as the other form of
learning and teachings, online learning has it’s own advantages and disadvantages that affects the
student’s way of learning. The reason why we focus on online learning it's because that this is
the main issue for the students in the Philippines. Because some students can't afford new
gadgets and also a stable internet connection. But because of the blended learning which consists
of both modular and online learning helps the students to be not left out especially in this time
that we are facing a crisis because of the pandemic.

Some of us also like the set-up of the online learning. It simply because we can save more money
because we are not buying food and fare and also we are not paying for projects anymore. And
we have the freedom to study in our most productive time. As of 2020, 41% of students indicated
that the online learning is way better than the traditional learning or the face to face learning.
And because anytime we can go back to listen our recorded lectures and discussion. And because
modern technology can help us to our modern learning. Almost all of the people owns gadgets
that can help them to browse in internet and to listen to their recorded lecture. There are so many
ways for the students to be not left out. But the students should also consider of taking care of
their health and their mental health. Especially that most of the student procrastinates on doing
their activities and projects, it affects their mental health because they may feel physically and
mentally drained. But we should now always force ourself to procrastinate, all we need to do us
to manage our time and also to take a rest after studying. Online can also affect someone’s
mental health by him/her getting pressured or having panic attacks that makes online class
difficult for them, because they are accustomed to face-to-face class because they have someone
to lean on.
Allen and Seaman’s (2003) recent survey on online education delivered by higher education
institutions in the United States, found that at least 80% of the course content delivered by those
institutions were delivered online. Distance education was already common in 1800s, but its
rapid growth began in the late 1990s with the advance of the online technical revolution. The
survey findings reveal that almost respondents’ schools have switched to some form of distance
teaching since the beginning of COVID-19 crisis as said earlier and over 60% believe that
practices will not be the same this school year. Some advantages and disadvantages have been
said earlier, but how about the impacts to the teachers? An interpretive analysis of survey and
focus group responses from teachers who perceived online teaching had an impact on a
traditional face-to-face teaching led to discovery of one category of impact; increased
used/integration of technologies into traditional teaching. Some mentioned that teaching online
has increased their awareness of students’ needs and methods to create engaging activities, One
instructor noted it is easier face to face after teaching online, while another instructor disagreed
and faced challenges when returning to the face to face classroom. More Pros and Cons of online
learning in the Philippines are you are safe inside your home since there is pandemic going on
it’s better to stay at home, You don’t need to travel, you get to have more time with your family,
you have freedom, those were some of advantages of online learning but there is still
disadvantages which are there can be a lot of technical difficulties internet here in the Philippines
is not that strong and that can be a problem when attending a class. Some teachers are not tech-
savvy not all instructors are adapted at using the latest technology this can cause some problems
that can make the lesson move slowly. Classroom interaction is online, you can’t talk to your
friend, you can’t joke with them and the only way is an app called messenger. These were some
of the things that this research contains.

Statement of the Problem

1.2
Many online courses are designed to be highly adaptable. While the course will include due
dates, the student must set his own timetable for completing assignments. Although this is one of
the biggest advantages of online learning, it can also be a problem for students who have
difficulty sticking to a schedule. To be competent online learners, students must find a way to
reconcile the versatility of online learning with a disciplined schedule. Although this is one of the
most advantageous aspects of online learning, it can also be problematic for students who
struggle to stick to a schedule. To be successful online learners, students need find a way to
balance the flexibility of online learning with a disciplined schedule.

Depression impairs students' ability to focus, making it hard for them to read and remember what
they have read, write accurately, add ideas together, and organize themselves. Online students,
on the other hand, often finish assignments at home or in public places like libraries or coffee
shops. Family members, chores, and television could also distract students at home. Students in
public places may engage in people-watching, become engaged in someone's conversation, or
find it hard to concentrate due to background noise. Online students should improve performance
activities that encourage concentration and reduce distractions.

2.2
What is the impact of online learning to students?
- Online courses require greater motivation and self-discipline than classroom teaching
studies. On the other hand, online courses allow everyone to set our own goals, track our
progress, and meet deadlines.

What are the negative effects of online classes to students?

- These consequences include the fact that technology is not always effective, that it is
more difficult for students to understand concepts being taught, that online learning can lead to
social isolation, and that students might not develop good communication.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of online classes during lockdown?
- Advantages of online classes:
it is convenient.
Less expensive
connect with the world.

- Disadvantages of online classes:

Miscommunication
Less attention paid.
limited learning

Why is online learning effective?

- This makes online learning and digital content a more effective educational method in
general.

How does online learning improve academic performance?

- Since online education allows for more options, it can be less difficult to balance with
other commitments. Furthermore, since you can use smartphones, applications, and digital
resources to make learning more immersive and enjoyable, there is less pressure to involve
students.

Scope and Limitations of Study

The general intent of this study is to determine what is more effective between online learning
and face-to-face learning. This study is limited to two types of learning methods mentioned
above and focused on its advantages and disadvantages especially in this time of pandemic.

Despite of these limitations of the study, this research was conducted to give us additional
measures to know if students performed better in one environment over another this pandemic.
Online learning is very important since the virus took over, so online learning will be the
substitute for face-to-face classes

The advantages in online is about guaranteeing your safety and avoiding health problems from
the outside, the other is that we can use technology to make it easier for us to learn. The
disadvantages of online learning is the speed of internet since many people use it for specific
purposes so students will have trouble in the speed of internet, and the other is that it consumes
more electricity and data which is costly for the needy, we also have problems in electricity there
are possibilities that it will go out and same for the internet.

Significance of the Study

The scope of the study is to know what is more effective between online learning or face to face
learning and in this research we will know the advantages and disadvantages of online learning
and face to face learning. Teacher and Student are needed in this study.

This study can show and illustrate the effectiveness of the online learning to the students. And it
also tells us the disadvantages and the advantages of the new normal set-up of learning which is
also knows as the online learning that can affect the students.

Definition of Terms
Online learning – it is a education that takes place over the internet. It is often referred to as “e-
learning” among other terms. However, online learning is just one type of “distance learning.”
Traditional learning – it happens face-to-face in a classroom setting with one trainer and a group
of learners.
Modular learning – a form of distance learning that uses Self-Learning Modules (SLM) based on
the most essential learning competencies (MELCS) provided by DepEd. The modules included
sections on motivation and assessment that serve as a complete guide of both teachers’ 2!:
students’ desired competencies.
Website – a set of related web pages located under a single domain name, typically produced by
a single person or organization.
Blended learning – a style of education in which students learn via electronic and online media
as well as traditional face-to-face teaching.
Pandemic – an outbreak of a pandemic disease.
Gadgets – a small mechanical or electronic device or tool, especially an ingenious or novel one.
