PARTS OF COMPUTER AND ITS FUNCTIONS

What is a Computer?

A computer is an electronic device that takes information as input and gives us output. It has the ability
to store, retrieve, and process data.

Uses of Computer

A computer is very useful machine and is used for several places such as schools, home, banks, hospitals,
airports, and railway stations.
In schools, the computer helps the teacher to teach and prepare report cards. At home, it helps you to
do your homework, play games and watch movies.

Parts of Computer

Monitor – It looks like a television screen. It is an output device. It displays texts, pictures, movies and
results. A monitor is used to display the work going on inside the computer

Screen – A screen is the area of the monitor where pictures or output data displays

Keyboard – It has many buttons which are called keys. It is used for typing letters, words, numbers, and
special characters. It is an input device because it takes input from the user.
Mouse – A computer mouse is an input device that is used with a computer. It is used to move the
cursor or pointer on the screen. It is used to point, select, or open any file or folder. Items can be moved
or selected by pressing the mouse buttons (called clicking)

CPU – CPU stands for Central Processing Unit. It is the brain of the computer and is used to store all the
information. CPU is present inside the CPU Box. It controls the functioning of the entire Computer
System.

Additional Devices connected to a computer

Printer – It is used to take print out on a paper.

Speakers – It is used to listen to music or sound.

Headphones – It is worn over the ears. It is used to listen to music or any sound from a computer
without disturbing others.
