Semi-detailed Lesson Plan in Grade 11

I. Objectives
At the end of the 20-minute session, students should be able to:
 S11/12PS-IIIi-j-31: identify the active ingredient(s) of cleaning products used at
home;
 explain the mode of action of common cleaning materials; and
 illustrate the risks of active compounds in cleaning products

II. Subject Matter

Topic : How chemistry contributes to the understanding of

household and personal care products

of Everyday Phenomena: A Conceptual

Materials : Powerpoint presentation, illustrations and videos,

rubrics, laptop, Zoom meeting, Google Classroom,
Google Form

Values Integration : Science behind the cleaning materials.

III. Procedure
*Thru zoom meeting
A. Daily Routine
 Greetings
 Prayer
 Checking of Attendance
 Classroom Management
B. Review
 Thru zoom meeting: How chemical changes take place
C. Motivation
 Thru Zoom meeting: Play a video in regards to cleaning materials (how it
reacts on dirt)
D. Lesson Proper
 Thru Zoom Meeting:
 What do you think is our topics for today? Do you have any idea>
 When you hear ‘cleaning product’, what is the first product or brand that
comes into your mind?
 How do you think does it work?
 Do you think water alone can remove dirt?
 Discussion of the topic using powerpoint presentation. Enumerating the
active compounds present in the common cleaning materials (with
illustration) and discussing its mode of actions.
 Playing a video about the science behind the cleaning products
 If it is use to clean the surfaces, how do you think it will react if we use it
on our human body? Is there any risk? Can you give me an example?
 Discussion of safety measures in using cleaning materials.

E. Application
 For today’s activity, I will assign breakout room in this zoom session for
each group.
 We will be having 2 groups for this class. Choose your leader because
she/he will be the one who will present your outputs.
 Start the group work by listing 3 common cleaning products and write the
corresponding active compound that can be found in those products,
mode of actions and its risk.
 After 3 minutes of brainstorming, we will get back to the zoom session
for presentation.
 You are given 2 minutes to discuss your output in the class.

F. Generalization
 Google Form (link will be sent in chatbox - zoom meeting)
 What are the three things you have learned today?
 How about, 2 things that you want to learn more?
 And lastly, give me one question that you really want to ask.
IV. Evaluation
Short quiz thru google form.
Directions : I will send the link in the chat box (in zoom) and the form will
automatically closed after 2 minutes. This quiz is composed of 4 items only, fill in the
blank.
1. Hydrochloric Acid, also known as _________, has corrosive properties that help clean
tough stains. Answer: Muriatic Acid
2. Cleaning agents may become ___________ when it is not used properly. Answer:
hazardous

3. Containing small amounts of other chemicals or slightly impure is called _______.

Answer: Technical grade
4. Substances that reduces the surface tension of liquids is called ________. Answer:
Surfactants

V. Assignment

I have posted an assignment in our google classroom. Find 2 cleaning agents in your home, then
ask your mom/dad how they are using it. Compare the actual usage vs provided instruction in
the label, write your observation. The deadline of this assignment is tomorrow.
