Subject: Signs Language Health Professions Area

As a requirement of the ENGL4021 class it was necessary to attend to a conference that

will help us to develop in our professional future career. In this case, we will discuss the
important details of the workshop offered by the “Asociacion Pro-Sordos” (AUPS) of the
University of Puerto Rico on Ponce. The meeting was convened via Google Meet on January 26,
2021at 11:45 am, and it was called “Área de Profesiones de Salud”. The workshop was presented
by Eduardo Ramírez Andujar, vice president of the AUPS association. The principal groups that
attended were members of the different association such as Be the Match on Campus (BTMOC),
AUPS and AMSA. The workshop concludes after little more than an hour.

Eduardo Ramirez Andujar presented some of the essential details to learn to the development the
ability in the sign language:

1. Presented the correct way to do the alphabet. If someone does not know how to do a word
correctly this helps them to demonstrate it letter by letter.

2. Instruct how do proper courtesy language. In this case was “Nice to meet you”.

3. Also some of the words learned in the workshop were about the medical signs. Some of this
were bone marrow, cancer, surgeon and ambulance.

There is a small part of society that cannot communicate the way most people can. For some of
this people refrain from doing things most of other people do, just because there is no direct way
or not everyone knows how to communicate with them. As well as we learn other languages to
be able to communicate with other people, sign language shows us it is importance in creating a
more inclusive professional work environment.
