Abstract:
The critical role that fire alarm systems play is controlling and ensuring the protection of the
community and persons. While consumers are aware of the usability of many of the existing fire
alarm systems, they are manufactured at a high rate, which is not affordable for low-income
users. The key purpose of this project is to develop a low-cost prototype of an automatic fire
alarm system (A-FAS). Two systems, the identification system and the warning system, compose
the A-FAS developed for this project. The warning device acts as a fire alarm and consists of a
manual call point, a smoke detector, a heat detector and an emergency switch. The concept and
implementation of a fire alarm device based on a microcontroller is discussed in this article. The
detectors are positioned in various areas, and the warning system is triggered by some signal
from any detector in any region. LEDs, LCD notification, buzzer and text message alerts are
used in the warning system. In addition, the device is equipped with sensors in various zones to
sense the movement of people, which improves the system's tracking process. A microcontroller,
which is designed using the Arduino compiler, controls the whole machine. The A-FAS senses
smoke or any increase in temperature detected by the detectors upon completion of the
prototype. Finally, the buzzer operates anytime some of the sensors are activated and the device
sends a text message to the number saved. The protection of people and the community will be
improved with the development of A-FAS as the low cost of the device will enable consumers of
all income classes to have one at their location or home.
