5 Notes on testing

5.1 Tensile strength and elongation at tear

When calculating the surface area to determine tensile strength values, the cell density of the material
is ignored.
– Item according to TL 52065:
Specimen: preferably S2 dumb-bell specimen according to
DIN 53504
Specimen thickness: approx. 5 mm
– Item according to TL 52065-A:
Specimen: S2 or S3A dumb-bell specimen according to
DIN 53504 depending on the component dimensions
Specimen thickness: approx. 2 mm

5.2 Aging in air

The specimens are aged in a forced air oven acc. to DIN 53508.
Aging period: 46 h
Test temperature: +70 °C
Measurements are taken after a 15-minute acclimatization period at (23 ± 2) °C.

5.3 Aging at elevated temperature

Only if "resistant to hot air" is required in the drawing.
The specimens are aged in a forced air oven acc. to DIN 53508.
Test temperature: According to drawing
Measurements are taken after a 30-minute acclimatization period at (23 ± 2) °C.
Page 6
TL 52065: 2010-11

5.4 Aging in water

Only if "water resistant" is required in the drawing.
The specimens are aged in 400 cm3 of deionized water in forced air ovens according to DIN 53508.
Test temperature: +80 ℃
The specimens must be completely covered with water during the aging process.
Measurements are taken after a 30-minute acclimatization period at (23 ± 2) °C.

5.5 Compression stress

Only if "compression stress" is required in the drawing.
Minimum specimen size: (30 × 30 × 25) mm
Evaluation of compression stress: At 40% compression
Deformation rate: 100 mm/min

5.6 Permanent deformation

Test based on DIN EN ISO 1856.
Deviation: Specimen thickness according to sample
The result is calculated using the following formula:
(h0 - h2)
Permanent deformation = × 100
(h0 - h1)

where
h0 = height of the specimen in unloaded condition
h1 = height of the specimen in compressed condition
h2 = height of the specimen after unloading
Compression: By 25% of the initial height
The specimens are aged in a forced air oven acc. to DIN 53508.
Test temperature: According to drawing
Measurements are taken after a 2-hour period of acclimatization at (23 ± 2) °C.

5.7 Low-temperature behavior

Adhesive tape is wound around the ends of the specimens prior to aging; in the case of very short
specimens, the ends are clamped in pliers.
After completion of the aging period, the specimens are folded backwards with a swift movement until
the inside surfaces come into contact with one another.

5.8 Water tightness

A specimen section measuring approx. 250 mm in length is bent into a U shape with a radius of
r = 50 mm between two 10-mm-thick plexiglass plates and compressed by 30% of the initial thickness.
Page 7
TL 52065: 2010-11

After a hold time of 22 h at (23 ± 2) °C, the trough formed by the specimen section when the plates
are upright is filled to a height of 20 mm with deionized water. The water must be colored beforehand
using a neutral organic dye.
Over a period of 96 h at (23 ± 2) °C, the water tightness is evaluated every 24 h.
A minimum of three specimens must be tested.

5.9 Water tightness during humid aging at elevated temperature

Specimens mounted according to Section 5.8 are aged for 96 h at +70 °C and 100% relative humidity.
1 h after removal, the trough formed by the specimen section is filled up to 20 mm with colored water.
Over a period of 96 h at (23 ± 2) °C, the water tightness is evaluated every 24 h.
A minimum of three specimens must be tested.
