CHAPTER 7
Plumbing and HVAC
Drawings

PROBLEM 7-1
Name and define the following abbreviations:

CW HW HWR

HB CO DS

PROBLEM 7-2
Name and define the following fixture abbreviations:

CB MH VTR

DF WH DW

BD GD

WC LAV B

S U SH

RD FD SD

PROBLEM 7-3
Use the floor plan that was started in Chapter 4 and draw a one-line isometric drawing of the freshwater supply system.

PROBLEM 7-4
Use the symbols in Figure 20-2 from your text and create a wblock of each of the symbols. Assign an insertion point appro-
priate for easy insertion into a plumbing layout. Create the symbols at a size appropriate for inserting in a drawing plotted at
a scale of 1/4" ⫽ 1'-0". Save each symbol with a file name that will describe the symbol.

PROBLEM 7-5
Use the floor plan that was started in Chapter 4 and draw a one-line isometric drawing of the drainage and waste systems.

PROBLEM 7-6
Use vendor supply catalogs or the Internet and complete a plumbing fixture schedule for the floor plan that was started in
Chapter 4.

PROBLEM 7-7
Use the symbols in Figure 21-13 from your text and create a wblock of each of the symbols. Assign an insertion point appro-
priate for easy insertion into an HVAC layout. Create the symbols at a size appropriate for inserting in to a drawing plotted at
a scale of 1/4" ⫽ 1'-0". Save each symbol with a file name that will describe the symbol.

PROBLEM 7-8
Use the illustration in Figure 21-24 from your text and create a wblock that can be used for an exhaust grill schedule. Assign
an insertion point appropriate for easy insertion into an HVAC layout. Create the grids and text at a size appropriate for insert-
ing in to a drawing plotted at a scale of 1/4" ⫽ 1'-0". Save each schedule with an appropriate file name.

PROBLEM 7-9
Use the floor plan that was started in Chapter 4 to design and draw a mechanical plan. Freeze all layers that were required for
the floor and electrical plans. Create new layers for HVAC symbols and notes. Use the blocks created in Problem 7-7 to com-
plete the plan. Set all variables for plotting at a scale of 1/4" ⫽ 1'–0". Base all design assumptions on the outdoor temperature
for your area and assume the minimum code allowed for indoor temperature. Ceiling heights are to be based on your design.
Insulation, doors, weather stripping, and glazing should meet or exceed minimum code requirements for your area.

PROBLEM 7-10
Use the floor plan that was started in Chapter 4 and prepare the thermal calculations for heating and cooling using the blank
forms that are provided on the CD for Architectural Drafting and Design. Use the guidelines given in Chapter 21 of the text
to complete this project.
