Student’s name: Mariana Peña Palomino Grade (Group): TENTH

In Colombia daily news show different situations in which human rights are violated. We can see
children starving, teenagers being excluded from the formal education and women being abused,
among others.

Activity 1. Access the following link and find a news in which you notice a human right being
violated. Paste the source (link) and then state your point of view about it.
https://colombiareports.com/

Source: Protest in Colombia turn deadly: polices massacres “at least 8” in Cali.
Personal and critical opinion: I
think that everything that has happened in Cali is a
horrible act. We do not know if these people were thieves or people with
bad intentions or simply civilians, what we do know that having attempted
against people's lives, having ignored the right to life is a terrible act. It is an
inhumane act to open fire no matter who they hurt, this is an abuse of
authority in every way and I believe that all violent acts or abuse should be
reprimanded in some way.

Activity 2. Have you seen people around you (in your family, neighborhood, city, country) being
discriminated, excluded…? Try to identify some situations and follow the examples while
describing them:

- Children are forced to work in the streets

- Farmers are exposed to displacement in far areas

- Disabled people are not given the same opportunities as a "normal" person
- People are discriminated against because of their sexual orientation
- Lack of job opportunities for a pregnant woman
- Discrimination against people based on their ethnic origin
- Discrimination by the type of religion that is professed

Activity 3. Search for information about inequity in Colombia. Choose a field and describe its
causes. Then propose some alternatives to solve this issue:
Example:

Field: Education
Cause: The Ser Pilo Paga Program has excluded students who belong to low social conditions,
since not all the students who access this benefit can continue or finish their careers
in private universities, because of the high costs of these institutions. Some scholarship
recipients cannot afford to making hundreds of copies, buying meals inside the
university or getting the expensive books that are normally required.
Alternatives - If the scholarship recipients could study in a public university, they would be able to
deal with extra expenses.
- If the Government invested in public schools, more students would have the
opportunity to study a professional career.
- If public university offered more options to study, the students would …

Field: Social
Cause: Unemployment in Colombia is quite a complex issue since the lack of job opportunities
is increasingly scarce, and it is what leads people to poverty. In cities, the rate of
employment opportunities is much higher than in rural areas, since there are no
industrial zones, companies or offices, which leads to people being unemployed and
entering poverty.
Alternatives: -Create and develop large state companies to hire people who live in the vicinity

- Emphasize the importance of education in order to obtain better opportunities

Activity 4. Through two images (drawings, photos) show:

1. A social issue (inequity)
2. An ideal world

Then detail both situations (written or orally)

Statement Opinion
1. Imagine there’s no I think that people belonging to the same culture (religion,
countries beliefs, language…) would not be able to compare to others
and so try to improve their conditions (a current trend
reflects how interested some Colombian families are in
living in a safer and better country to grow their children)
2. Living life in peace I think that a life in peace would be great for everyone, there
would be no wars, deaths would be significantly reduced.
The world would be a better place if all were at peace.

3. No need for greed or hunger A world without hunger would be so different ... Children
would not starve people would not covet food only if there
was enough food for everyone everything would be different

Good luck!!
