Introduction
 Art is a diverse range of human activities in creating visual, auditory or
performing artifacts (artworks), expressing the
author's imaginative, conceptual idea, or technical skill, intended to be
appreciated for their beauty or emotional power.

 Until the English Arts & Crafts Movement of the late 19th century, there
was a rigid distinction between fine art (purely aesthetic) and decorative
art(functional). During the 20th century, with the introduction of the
category of visual art, this arbitrary distinction has become blurred, and
certain crafts or decorative arts (notably ceramics) are now considered to
be fine art.

 Fine arts may include : Drawing, painting, sculpture, print making.

 Applied arts may include: Architecture, Photography, Industrial
Design, Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Interior Design
Different forms of Art
 In contemporary times the categorization of fine and applied arts has
become indistinct, thus we can club each type into following forms
 Visual arts
 Two Dimensional art
 Painting and Drawing

 Mosaic

 Printmarking

 Calligraphy

 Photography

 Three Dimensional art

 Architecture

 Pottery

 Sculpture

 Conceptual Art

 Poetry
 Music
 Performing arts
 Dance
 Theatre
 Film
Different forms of Art
 Art some times can be named according to the materials and
methods used to create it, such as: drawing, painting, sculpture (including
ceramic sculpture), "glass art", "metal art", "illuminated gospel manuscripts",
"aerosol art", "fine art photography", "animation", and so on.

 Above categories can also be sub-categorized into painting in oils, water

colours, acrylics or sculpture in bronze, stone, wood, porcelain; just to
name but a few.

 Other sub-branches include different genre categories, like: narrative,

portrait, genre-works, landscape, still life.
Role of Art
 we judge something as art or architecture by its functionality (architecture
has a practical function while art does not). it is clear that it is not always
possible to draw a clear line between art and architecture. Throughout
history, there have been various interpretations of art or architecture.
